Senior Teacher Bilingual Courses Role Profile Job Description Directorate or Region EU Europe Department/Country France Location of post Paris Pay Band Senior Teacher (local scale) Reports to ATCM YL & Bilingual Section Duration of job Permanent (local contract) Purpose of job: To ensure effective academic management of English language courses for young learners in the Bilingual Section aged 3 to 17 at British Council in Ile de France Context and environment: British Council teaching activity in Ile de France is undergoing a period of rapid expansion. The centre currently accommodates over 3,800 young learners in school year classes and a further 3,000 during holiday classes. Delivery is mainly from our central Invalides premises but activity in partner schools is increasing and will represent over 35% of volume in 2015/16. These are off-site locations where we are introducing new programmes and which are expected to generate the majority of growth, particularly in the YL programme but also in public access adult programmes. The Bilingual courses were established in 1998 and focus on developing literacy skills for children with English as a 2nd, 1st or mother tongue, based on the British Primary and Secondary curriculum. The objective is for students to eventually sit the IGCSE and A-levels (English). These courses are an important product segment, accommodating around 600 students during the school year. Bilingual courses for primary students in the Holiday Classes were introduced in February 2015, and will be extended to the secondary students over the next year. The Centre is also extending the product offer for early years (ages 3-5) teaching for bilingual learners. ST Bilingual will help develop and academically manage this programme. The post holder will be responsible for ensuring that courses for bilingual early years, primary and secondary learners deliver a high quality, effective learning experience which meets their needs, represents best practice in pedagogy and ensures student loyalty over time. ST Bilingual will also be a reference for teacher support and development in bilingual teaching. ST Bilingual Courses will be an active member of the TC management team, contributing to product design and development, teacher training activity, line management of teachers, duty shift cover and child protection and health and safety initiatives. Accountabilities, responsibilities and main duties: Academic Management of courses for bilingual children and teenagers aged 3 to 17, including (in collaboration with ATCM YL & Bilingual Section): Design and implementation of appropriate learning objectives and curricula Selection and development of appropriate learning resources, materials and core texts 1 of Design and implementation of appropriate assessment policies and resources Collection of customer feedback to inform academic management decisions Review of academic management practice to ensure consistency with other programmes in Ile de France, wider France and BC regionally and globally Contribute to placement test management and supervision Contribute to TC academic quality plan Contribute to TC training plan Teaching: To prepare, administer and deliver up to 400 hours of teaching and/or training per year (including substitution) to applicable corporate and locally defined standards Line management: To line manage up to 6 (full-time equivalent) teachers to applicable corporate and French legal standards TC Management team duties: To act as duty officer where/as required by the duty officer schedule To deal with customer queries and issues as required To actively support the achievement of customer service excellence standards To ensure that child protection standards are maintained at all times and that child protection issues are dealt with promptly and escalated to the Child Protection Officer To support the achievement of applicable corporate and French legal Health and Safety Standards To ensure that resources, stocks and materials are well organised and managed Key relationships: Internal: France English / TC management team TC teachers Regional TC / English SBU colleagues Staff in BC Ile de France External: Parents of YLs, adult students ELSA network CIE and/or Edexcel Other important features or requirements of the job The post will involve weekend and evening working hours 2 of Please specify any passport/visa and/or nationality requirement.
