Dear Honors Students and Parents:
This year, Advanced Placement exam registration will take place March 1 – 12,
2010. Exams will cost $86 each, and students will receive paperwork and registration
forms from their Honors teachers in early February.
As you may already know, AP and IB testing fees are becoming more of a
financial burden to our students every year. At the same time, earning AP and IB
advanced credit is more important than ever before in terms of student admission to
university, scholarship eligibility and long-term savings in tuition costs. As Honors
Coordinators, we are dedicated to the principle that no VHS student should have to
forego exams because of the fees.
On Saturday, February 27th, the Honors Club will be hosting our Second 5 K
Walk/Run – “Steps 4 Students.” All proceeds from this fundraiser will go directly to
student exam fees and charities. At the same time, we will host an International
Baccalaureate Open House, so the public can view all the outstanding learning
experiences VHS has to offer. We are asking that every Honors student and every
Honors family make a commitment to this event.
Parents, we would also like to take this opportunity to request your assistance as
exam proctors. Traditionally, we have been able to use retired staff members to fill
these proctoring positions, but we no longer have that option available. Between May
3rd and May 21st, we will need 5 6- volunteers per day to supervise exams. Naturally, we
will train you ahead of time and be on site to assist.

_____Come to a parent meeting on Tuesday, January 26th at 6:30 to help us plan (D-15)
_____Donate items for our Silent Auction/Opportunity Drawing (we’ll provide
a tax write-off)
_____Sign up all your family, friends and neighbors to walk in the 5K (race forms will be
available in D-15, D-17 and on the Honors website after January 26)
_____Help host our Race, Open House, Community Carnival and Silent Auction on 2/27.
_____Other
Students:
_____Help us sell race registrations Jan 25 – Feb 26 – and enter a team or club!
_____ Donate items to the auction.
_____Get your club or class involved!
_____Circulate flyers EVERYWHERE! Yes…everywhere! (pick them up in D-15/D-17)
_____Meet with us during ELPs on Tuesdays to give us your time.
*All hours spent helping with this event will count for community service or CAS hours.
The more hours a student contributes to the event, the larger an exam rebate the
student will earn. Pick up a Community Service Log from Mrs. Green in D-15.
