Course Grade:
Indicate how the grade will be calculated; if class attendance is to affect the student's final grade in the course,
state the effect; if the NCC grading scale is not to be used, clearly state the scale to be used.
Attendance Policy:
Include an attendance policy statement. (Refer to page 33 of NCC catalog.) If attendance policy is to be
established, delineate the policy. If make up policy is to be established, denote the policy. Policies must be
worded so that they can be easily understood by the students and so that they may be applied objectively to all
students. If policies are established, they must be followed.
Other potential items to address for grading and attendance: missing a test, assignment make-up, late work,
dropping grades, group work non-participation, etc.
Student Conduct Statement:
Include the following: “Students at Nash Community College are expected to conduct themselves as
responsible adults in accordance with generally accepted standards of morality and decency at all times. The
Conduct Code is printed in the NCC catalog and the NCC Student Calendar. A violation of any of the listed
behaviors will warrant immediate disciplinary action and may result in suspension from the College.” Also
include any cheating/plagiarism statement in this section.
Special Needs:
Include the following statement: “If you are a student with a special need as defined by the Americans with
Disabilities Act (ADA) that substantially limits your ability to participate in the educational process, then you
may contact Dr. Jim Hartsell in Student Development, office 2002, phone (252) 451-8260.”
Outline Schedule:
It is helpful to students to know in advance that which is expected of them. Arranging this outline by units or
concepts and within a time frame as applied to the objectives of the course is ideal. Note dates of tests, due
dates of research work or projects, or other lengthy assignments. In addition, note date of final exam if exam is
to be given. (See example below.) Include a statement, "Dates are tentative and may change."
Competencies required for successful completion of course (if applicable):
Some courses require the student to prove mastery of specific competencies. If applicable to this course, list
the required competencies that must be mastered for successful completion of the course.

Include office number, telephone number, and e-mail address. (Some faculty put this at the beginning of the
syllabus.)
