We are welcoming you to join the excitement in Martin Luther King Jr. Day by participating in this year’s essay contest. The contest winner will be awarded for their hard work and achievements at the Lord Fairfax Community College Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration on Monday, January 21, 2013 at noon in the Carl and Emily Thompson Center, Corron Development Center. Friends and family are welcome to join in the excitement of recognizing their student’s achievements at the celebration. First Place –$250.00 scholarship to Lord Fairfax Community College Second Place –$100.00 scholarship to Lord Fairfax Community College Contest theme: Martin Luther King Jr. said, “World peace through nonviolent means is neither absurd nor unattainable. All other methods have failed. Thus we must begin anew. Nonviolence is a good starting point. Those of us who believe in this method can be voices of reason, sanity, and understanding amid the voices of violence, hatred, and emotion. We can very well set a mood of peace out of which a system of peace can be built.” Please explain what Dr. King meant by this. How will you encourage others to “set a mood of peace?” Focus on how you can live this concept in your community, family, neighborhood or school environment.
