: Perovskite CaSnO3 nanocrystals with
morphologies of microcubes have been
successfully achieved by a facile hydrothermal
process and subsequent heat-treatment process.
The structure and morphologies of the assynthesized samples were characterized by Xray diffractometer (XRD), scanning electron
microscope (SEM), transmission electron
microscope (TEM), and UV–vis diffuse
reflectance spectroscopy (DRS). The influence
of the pH value on the formation of CaSn(OH)6
intermediate, and the following heat-treatment
temperature required for the synthesis of
CaSnO3 were investigated. The results show
that the CaSn(OH)6 can be prepared at the pH
of 13, while the CaSnO3 can be obtained above
the heat-treatment temperature of 600oC. The
UV-vis DRS shows the samples exhibit a band
gap of about 4.3 eV. The microcube
morphologies of the as-prepared samples were
observed by SEM and TEM. The CaSnO3 is
found to be an effective photocatalyst at the
first time. The nanocrystal sample obtained at
800oC show the highest photocatalytic activity
for degradation of methyl orange under 254nm
UV lights.

