Well what a great start to 2012. So much has been happening including assisting on the Supercamp, teaching in Canterbury, Takaka, Te Anau and moving back into our earthquake repaired home after spending 4 months in a caravan. It is funny after an experience like that you really appreciate the small things in life, like a flush toilet and a kitchen bench longer than 2 feet! SUPERCAMP During February I had the pleasure of Jackie Chant, assisting Russell Higgins and Elaine Knox (from the UK) on the Supercamp at McLeans Island equestrian centre. With 16 riders plus auditors it was a very busy 5 days. I leant lots and got the opportunity to help many of the participants on the course which was great. The highlights of the week for me were seeing the huge progress the individuals made and the difference that made to their horses and also when a number of the participants came up to me over lunch or before we started and were really excited to tell me how they thing I had helped them with the day before had worked and made such a difference. That’s why I do this, I love helping people. MY HORSEMANSHIP I have also spent some time during the last 4 months working on my horsemanship in readiness for my next trip to the USA in May. I have now passed my Level 4 Online and Liberty and am hoping to send my Level 4 Freestyle audition in before leaving for my externship. I have been concentrating on Kascade and Coco (my white Arabian mare) and just keeping my new horse Cody ticking over. My beautiful Arabian Mare ‘Coco’ EXTERNSHIP I am heading back to the USA the first week of May 2012 to complete a 12 week Externship. What this means is that I will spend 6+ days a week for 3 months focusing on four different areas of development including: horsemanship, teachermanship, facility management and business & administration. I am really looking forward to the opportunity to improve in these areas. I will also complete a 2* instructors course while on the Externship with the view to becoming qualified so as to able to teach Freestyle as well as online upon my return to New Zealand next summer. Please note that I am getting quite busy, so if you would like a lesson before I head away, give me a call 027 680 4800 or email me info@sandystanway.com to secure a spot. I will be returning to New Zealand at the end of August 2012. H3 HOLISTIC, HAPPY, HORSE INFORMATION DAY I will be doing a small spotlight/demonstration on the H3 (Holistic, Happy, Horse Information Day) on Sunday 1st April 2012 at 281 Heyward Rd, Clarkville. This information day was run last year with success and has been organised for the 1st April this year. It is a day that is full of clinicians and people presenting on a range of different topics. I will be presenting on Parelli Natural Horsemanship. I will have my horse Kascade there and will be doing a small demo on what natural horsemanship is and what it can do for you. I may also have my Arabian mare there too, who is exactly the opposite horsenality to Kascade which makes for interesting watching. Admission is free, so please feel free to come along and see the many different demonstrations that will be presented including Homeopathy, Equine Dentist, Barefoot trimming, Equine Bowen Therapy, Classical French Dressage and Balance training as well as a whole host of other topics. I am programmed to be on at 3pm (please note this could change if the programme changes). Full program at web.me.com/j9wow/H3. I would love to see you there. GAME OF CONTACT 14-16 September 2012 Selwyn Equestrian Indoor Arena Instructor - Jackie Chant Clinic coordinator – Sandy Stanway Game of contact is a new way of teaching a horse to want to take the contact with the rider. It is astronomically changing the way horses and riders work together once the rider takes up contact with the horses mouth. Many horses feel trapped or blocked which means the riders spends a considerable amount of time pushing the horse forward into the contact. This doesn’t work well for the horse or the rider. Linda Parelli realised this and has come up with a way of teaching the horse to want to take the contact. Along with this she has developed a great way of teaching the rider to get in even more harmony with the horse whilst taking the contact. When you see this in action, which I have as I attended Linda Game of Contact course last year in Australia, it is astonishing to watch the results. Anyone wanting to get results with their horse in this area should do this clinic. This is not just an English discipline clinic, this has helped riders in all disciplines who simply want a better contact with their horse. There is a limit of 8 riders and riders must be level 3 freestyle. I cannot recommend this clinic strongly enough. If you aren’t ready to ride, you can audit this course. Having attended Linda’s course myself as an auditor I can tell you, you will seriously be blown away by what you see and the information you get. It is a requirement of this course for the course coordinator to be an Instructor, so I am lucky enough to be the coordinator for Jackie’s clinic here in Canterbury, so if you are at all interested in attending, let me know. RUSSELL HIGGINS I have managed to secure Russell Higgins (4* Parelli Natural Horsemanship Instructor from Hamilton) to come down and spend some time at my place in January/February 2013 to start horses under saddle. It would seem at this stage that he is already fully booked with horses to start, but should you wish to have a horse started by Russell please contact me as he may yet be able to take more horses. Russell is a superb horseman, who is now sort after worldwide for his horse starting skills. While Russell is here, we are hoping to run a couple of joint clinics, which we will have more details about upon my return from the USA in August. Parelli EQUIPMENT I am thoroughly enjoying being able to help so many of you. Many have remarked on my charges being very reasonable. I want to be able to help as many of you as I can and so want to be able to keep my prices down. One way you can help me do this is that should you wish to order any Parelli equipment, if you go via my instructor page on Parelli.com I will receive a small commission from anything you buy. This will not cost you ANYTHING extra and will allow me to keep my prices down. This will allow me to keep my charges as low as I can, as long as I can. To do this go to http://instructor.parelli.co m/SandyStanway and then click on SHOP at the top. Thank you for supporting me! M CHARGES From 1 November 2011 my charges will be as follows: $40 per hour = 1 hr private one to one lesson Or $30 per person per hour for a group or 2 or more - Travel is additional if I travel to your place. This is $10 per lesson when the lesson is held at your property in the Canterbury area, no charge when you come to mine. I am happy to travel to any area of New Zealand, please contact me regarding this. PLEASE NOTE:- Payment for lessons is due in cash or by cheque at the beginning of each lesson.
