BANTING MEMORIAL HIGH SCHOOL AWARDS and BURSARIES Banting has a number of potential awards and bursaries that are presented to deserving students’ at Commencement of their graduating year. These may be based upon highest mark in a course, leadership, citizenship, extra-curricular activities, volunteer activities, post-secondary destinations and course of study, and/or special circumstances. Some are awards students may apply for, while others are based on grades and/or teacher recommendations. All graduating students are welcome to apply for any of the Self-Nominating Awards SELF-NOMINATING AWARDS Students have an opportunity to nominate themselves for a number of Banting awards and bursaries. If you are interested in being considered for any of the awards or bursaries listed below, you must submit an application form specifying which one(s) you wish to be considered for. Awards range in value from $50.00 to $1,500.00. Staff members will also nominate deserving students. After all applications are received, the Banting Commencement Committee will meet to determine our Award winners. Deadline for applications: April 25th, 2013 Honda of Canada Manufacturing Award: (Male) For academic excellence and significant contribution to extra-curricular school life, pursuing post-secondary education in sciences with preference given to those students continuing on in Applied Sciences. (Engineering, technology, etc.) Honda of Canada Manufacturing Award: (Female) For academic excellence and significant contribution to extra-curricular school life, pursuing post-secondary education in sciences with preference given to those students continuing on in Applied Sciences. (Engineering, technology, etc.) David Leach Memorial Award For a graduating student that is pursuing agricultural studies in a post-secondary institution. Cultur-All Award A graduating student who has made an outstanding contribution in the field of the arts. Karen Mulder Memorial Award (female) A female graduating student who combines scholarship, good citizenship and an excellent attitude. Wilmer Palmer Memorial Citizenship Award Royal Canadian Legion, Br. 329, Tottenham A graduating student from the Tottenham area that has demonstrated outstanding citizenship and service. Lions Club Award A deserving graduate who is going on to college and would benefit from additional financial assistance. (Please be specific as to why you are in financial need.) Stevenson Memorial Hospital Bursaries Three bursaries awarded to graduating students planning a healthcare career. A minimum average of 80% is required to apply. Alliston & District Chamber of Commerce Award To a student who shows dedication, enthusiasm, and commitment to business studies and is planning post secondary business related programs. Cheryl J Walsh Foundation Award To a student who demonstrates significant financial need and is attending a post secondary institution next year. John and Phyllis Darling Memorial Award - June 14 A deserving student attending Queen’s University. A Queen’s student number will be required. Links For Learning Scholarship Program (2 Scholarships) - June 3 University - $8000 College -$3500 Designed to provide financial assistance to New Tecumseth students so they may pursue post secondary educational opportunities which might not be financially feasible for them. The Rotary Club of Alliston-Paul Harris High School Scholarship – May 25 Awarded to a Banting student going on to post-secondary education who has demonstrated leadership in their community e.g. academic, amateur sports or voluntary service endeavours. $2000. The L.P. Keogh Award - June 3 This award recognises a graduating student who has demonstrated exemplary voluntary service throughout high school, which has benefited our local community. This may include work in a variety of community service areas: youth, elderly, education, cultural, church, recreation, sport (Please be specific regarding where you volunteered, what types of services you performed and how many hours you volunteered with the organization (s)) Dr Raymond E Ives Horticultural Award Open to students who are studying Horticultural related programs at college or university. Simcoe Area Women’s Institute Scholarship Open to all students of good academic standing who have shown leadership skills in school and their community. Pick up application in Guidance. Simcoe County Federation of Agriculture - May 30 Open to high school students whose family is a member of SC Federation of Agriculture who will enroll in an Agriculture program. J. Keith McRuer Scholarship in Agriculture and Food: (2 Scholarships) May 31 Awarded to two graduating students from South Simcoe who enroll in an approved Degree or Diploma in Agriculture or related program OR Family Studies/Hospitality. The Rotary Club of Palgrave Memorial Leadership Bursary - June 20 A graduating student going on to post-secondary studies who is a resident of Adjala, Mono or the Town of Caledon. Students must have demonstrated leadership experience. The Rotary Club of Barrie-Huronia A graduating student going on to post-secondary studies who is a resident of Essa. Students must have demonstrated leadership experience 4-H Women’s Institute Regional Scholarship – June 1 Open to 4-H members who have completed six 4-H units. Dr. Kellie Leitch MP. Youth Award – June 1 Awarded to a graduating student who is going onto post secondary studies who has demonstrated leadership at school and/or in the community.
