HOW TO RELAY LOGISTICALLY
Team Deliveries & Parking
1. Teams may make deliveries with their vehicles to the driving area next to the chutes on Friday, June
8th from 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
2. Any deliveries after 9:00 p.m. on Friday, June 8th will have to be carried in by hand.
3. Entrance gates open at 8:30 am Saturday June 9th for Relay For Life event.
4. Entrance for teams making deliveries with vehicles is off of Maryal Dr. This entrance is ONLY open
to teams on Friday, June 8th from 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
5. Each team will receive one parking pass to the team parking lot at the back of the Sports Complex.
Passes will be handed out at the June 4th team captain meeting or available at the registration booth
on Thursday and Friday
6. Security at the Sports Complex will start Friday morning through the event.
7. Vehicles are not allowed on the track or tent site area AT ANY TIME.
8. Team Captain parking is available in the parking area to the Northeast of the area Designated RV
parking is located behind the bucking chute against the back fence.
9. On Sunday, June 10th teams will be able to enter the event site with their vehicles AFTER Relay For
Life is over, at 11:00 a.m. Please plan accordingly.
Team Garbage/Recycling
1. Each team will be provided with 1- 32 gallon garbage container and 1-23 gallon recycling container.
2. There will be garbage and recycling containers strategically placed throughout the event grounds.
3. Please do not leave garbage, chicken bones, cans, etc. on the grass. Please dispose of waste
properly.
4. There are two 30 yard garbage containers and one 30 yard cardboard-only container near the tent
area for use.
5. Items you may recycle: newspapers, paper bags, cardboard, aluminum cans, foil, glass (brown,
green, or clear), milk containers, plastic containers labeled #1 - #7.
6. Items you may not recycle: food containers (i.e. pizza boxes), wax paper, paint, books, tissue,
paper towels, napkins, plastic bags (of any kind), Styrofoam, toys, hangers, flower pots, carpet,
wood, aerosol cans.
7. Sand from the luminaria bags may ONLY be emptied into one of the 30 yard dumpsters. Please do
not dispose of the sand in any of the garbage units located near the tents or on any dirt area.
Team Miscellaneous Information
1. What you bring in, you must take out. (I.e. hay, sofas, mattresses, chairs, ice chests, trees, etc.)
2. No pets allowed (except Service dogs.)
3. No alcohol is allowed.
4. Smoking is prohibited.
5. All tent site decorations must be fire-retardant treated.
6. If you are bringing your own tent, it must be securely tied to the ground.
7. If you have a propane storage tank, it must be stored outside the tent near a side flap, out of the sun
but near air circulation.
Cooking Equipment – City of Salinas Fire Regulations
1. All cooking equipment shall be of an approved type.
2. Coleman stoves or equivalent may be used only with approved fuel and the following conditions:
a. No gasoline or kerosene is to be used.
b. No fueling of stoves in booth.
3. Butane or propane equipment shall conform to the following:
a. The maximum size for LPG tanks used inside of booths is 10 gallons
b. A maximum of 10 gallons of LPG fuel for each cooking appliance may be stored outside of
the booth.
c. Tanks shall have a shut off valve.
d. Stove must have an on/off valve.
e. Hoses must be of type approved for use with the specific type of equipment.
f. Tank must be far enough away from stove to be shut off in case of fire, not under table with
stove on top.
g. Tank must be protected from damage and secured in upright position. (i.e. in a plastic or
metal milk crate).
h. No storage of extra butane or propane tanks in booth.
i. Turn tank off when not in use.
4. All connections must be tested. This may be done with a soap and water solution
5. A minimum of 18 inches shall be provided between the booth back/side drop material and cooking
appliance.
6. A minimum of 16 inches shall be provided between deep frying appliances/woks and open flame
stoves.
CHARCOAL AND WOOD BARBEQUE COOKING IS PROHIBITED
Gasoline Powered Generators
1. All gasoline-powered generators shall maintain a minimum of 10 feet from all combustible materials
and/or LPG tanks.
Refueling procedures: Stop engine, use only approve “safety cans”.
Storage of fuel shall be outside area and away from all combustible or ignition sources.
2. Fire Extinguishers:
a. Fire extinguishers must be visible and accessible, and away from generator.
b. Annual service must be current, tag must be attached.
Miscellaneous
1. The Fire Marshall encourages the use of noncombustible materials in cooking areas.
2. Remove trash accumulations regularly.
3. Clean all cooking surfaces regularly to prevent the build up of grease.
4. Decorative materials must be inherently fire resistive. Combustible material (such as butcher
paper or palm leaves) must be treated with a fire retardant paint or spray. Empty cans and
dated sales receipt may serve as proof. A flame test may be required to determine if
materials have been properly treated.
Fire Safety Tips
1. Know where the fire extinguisher is located and how to use it. If you rented a tent from Chic
Events, a fire extinguisher will be provided in the tent.
2. If you are bringing in your own tent, you will need to bring an approved fire extinguisher for the tent
as well. Each event tent must have its own fire extinguisher, per City regulations.
3. Do not leave food cooking unattended
4. Do not wear loose-fitting clothing when cooking
5. Keep combustibles away from heat sources
6. In case of emergency, dial 911
