NOTICE OF INTENTION TO SUBMIT THESIS
Regulation 15 of the Regulations for the Degree of PhD and Regulation 14 of the Regulations for
the Degree of MPhil
Candidates must give written advance notice to the School Postgraduate Research Committee
of intention to submit the thesis. To allow the thesis to be examined in time for graduation at a particular
date, the deadlines for notice of submission and submission of a thesis are as follows:

A candidate must be registered as a research student in the academic year in which the thesis is submitted.
The supervisors’ assent to the proposed submission date and to the submission itself is
normally required. Where the student and supervisor(s) disagree as to whether or not the thesis is
ready for submission, the principal supervisor shall notify the Head of School.
A candidate who fails to submit the thesis by the notified date must notify the School
Postgraduate Research Committee of a new date of submission, after consultation with the supervisor.
It cannot be guaranteed that candidates who meet the deadlines for notice of submission and submission of
thesis will be able to graduate on their preferred date. This will be subject to the availability of examiners at the
appropriate times.
