Directorate for Affiliation and Linkages
INTRODUCTION
The quest of the Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies for symbiotic
relationship with national and international publics and for improvement in its service
delivery by means of enhanced skills acquisition by faculty, other staff and students;
the expansion of her revenue base and better global recognition of her activities
through their internationalisation impelled the creation of the External Linkages
Directorate as a unit of the Editorial and External Linkages Department of the
Institute in 2012.
MANDATES OF THE DIRECTORATE
The External Linkages Directorate was established to provide a platform to seek,
cultivate and administer opportunities for collaboration, affiliation and linkages with
other institutions, agencies, corporate bodies both in the national and international
contexts while facilitating internationalization of the Institute’s activities.
VISION
Our vision is of a Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies widely acknowledged
for innovative deployment of the law and of cutting-edge intellectual input into
governance; to drive teaching, research, and community service that addresses the
sustainable development challenges of the nation and entire humanity through
effective local and international partnerships.
MISSION
Our Mission is to build the Institute’s profile nationally and internationally through
partnering with high profile institutions; contributing to the building of the Institute’s
reputation through strengthened capacity development; conducting research and
community development collaboration; facilitating engagements where the existence
of a formal agreement is required and providing support, advice and assistance to the
academic and administrative units of the Institute to facilitate internationalization in
their respective spheres.
ACTIVITIES
These range from attendance at and holding of seminars, meetings and conferences
(locally and internationally), development of partnership agreements (MOUs) and
project proposals. The Directorate will also facilitate the conduct of scheduled
visitations to affiliate institutions. These would help in raising the institute’s profile
and establish the foundation for future growth.

Consequently, the goal of the External Linkages Directorate is to connect the
Institute to institutions, organizations and communities at various levels as a means
of enriching the Institute’s curricula, promoting research and generating funds.
This determination requires a pragmatic and result-oriented structure than hitherto
available in the Institute which will facilitate linkages and partnerships, to enable
the Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies harness the rewards and benefits
of developing academic and industrial linkages and networks with other
educational institutions, funding bodies and other private and public sector
organizations both within and outside Nigeria. In broader terms, the essence, based
on critical review, is to strategically expand the Institute’s global and
communities’ development programmes in order to enhance their impact and
relevance.
The increasing success of democratic governance and the confidence that the
international community continues to demonstrate in Nigeria have combined to
reinforce the belief that international linkages have a crucial role to play in the
sustenance of Higher education.
