This module provides an introduction to the police in England, their role in society and how their
role has evolved. It examines the organisation and the structure of the police service and policing
practice, including the classification of offences and powers of arrest, the nature of evidence and
police procedures. Delivry of the module is achieved through a combination of directed reading
(pre-reads) and formal lectures, tutorials and role play sessions. Assessment Weighting:

student with an introduction the criminal law and policing in England and Wales. It will introduce
the student to statutory interpretation, examine English legal system and the role of the police

In introducing forensic science this module will cover, in outline, many of the subjects that are
frequently encountered as part of a criminal investigation. It will explore the ways in which a
forensic case is investigated at both the scene of the crime and in the laboratory. It will look at the
techniques used by forensic biologists, chemists and document investigators and use many
examples of criminal cases where forensic evidence was of particular importance. This is a

It is concerned with methods of identification in the forensic context. It will teach students the
methods and theory of forensic anthropology utilised to create a biological profile. Development
and applications of the techniques will be addressed. It will utilize human osteology within forensic
science as its lab-based focus. The identification of trauma and pathology will also be expanded
