Note: Though OverDrive will consider alternatives, patron authentication for your eBook
site is best accomplished with the use of one of the following:
+SIP (or SIP2) protocol (available through all ILS vendors)
+III’s Patron API (for III libraries only)
+Dynix’s Patron RPA (for Dynix libraries only)
If you do not have one of the above available, we highly recommend that you begin
the installation process at your earliest convenience.
ILS Vendor
The name of the ILS vendor used by the library.
(SirsiDynix, Polaris, III, etc.)

ILS Vendor Product/Version
The specific ILS vendor product name and version used by the library.

ILS Vendor Server
The protocol (telnet, sockets) and URL or IP address of the server running the ILS
code to which OverDrive should connect.*

ILS Vendor Server Port
The port to use when connecting to the ILS vendor’s server.
(The following is a list of known defaults for common ILS vendors: default Dynix=port 23; default III
SIP=port 5550 & default III PatronAPI= port 4500; default Polaris= port 5000; default Sirsi=port 6016;
default TLC= port 6001. If you are unsure of the port number to which OverDrive should connect, please
contact your ILS vendor representative to confirm.)

ILS Vendor Authentication
If required, the user name (login) and password to use when connecting to the ILS
vendor’s server.

ILS Vendor Library Card Format
The format of library card numbers. Some libraries have specific rules for library
card numbers that we can check before trying to connect to the ILS vendor for
verification. These include…
- “10 digits in length”
- “all begin with 200”
- “modulo-10 checksum for final digit”
- “codabar format”

Sample Library Cards
For testing purposes, OverDrive needs to receive several sample library cards. This
typically includes at least four valid card numbers as well as several card numbers
that should be blocked for various reasons, including:*
- excessive outstanding fines
- account closed
- card reported stolen
- too many items overdue
- too many items lost
- collection agency
- credit bureau
Please supply a minimum of 4 valid card numbers:
