WARWICK TEAM MINISTRY Weekly Newsletter WELCOME TO OUR SERVICES. If you are a newcomer to St Mary’s Church, or a visitor to the area, please introduce yourself to one of the sidespeople or the clergy. We hope that you enjoy worshipping with us. Communicant members of any Christian church are welcome to make their communion with us. If you do not wish to receive communion, but would like to receive God’s blessing, simply hold this service booklet when you come to the altar rail. St Mary’s seeks to be an inclusive church and welcoming to people of all ages and backgrounds. We have a carpeted area and pew bags available for the youngest members of our congregation, if they wish to use it. And they may like to take an adult with them! If you’re a UK tax payer the money you place in the collection can be increased by around 25% if you fill out a blue envelope in the nave chairs or by the main entrance and allow us to retrieve the tax you’ve already paid & put it towards the work of St Mary’s. Further information about St Mary’s, our life and ministry can be found on the website www.stmaryswarwick.org.uk, on Twitter and Facebook. Please note that for legal and copyright reasons the taking of videos, photographs and recordings is not permitted during services. 29th November 2015 Advent 1 8.00am Holy Communion (BCP Said) Celebrant & Preacher: Stig Graham The service begins in the Book of Common Prayer page 294 The collect and readings begin on page 87 Followed each third Sunday by breakfast at a local hotel 10.30am Celebrant & Preacher: Choral Eucharist– Common Worship 1 Boys’ and Men’s Voices Reader: Stig Graham 1 Thessalonians 3: 9 – end – Tony Fitzpatrick Intercessor: Assistants: Doreen Mills Christine Smeaton & Victoria Bartholomew Organ Voluntary: Nun komm, der Heiden Heiland (BWV 661) J. Start the journey to Bethlehem tonight! JOURNEY TO BETHLEHEM Following the success of last year's Posada, in which knitted figures of Mary, Joseph and a donkey travelled around the houses of members of St Mary's congregation, we will be repeating the journey this Advent. If you would like the opportunity to contemplate the true meaning of Christmas, and in the process get to know other members of our church, please sign up at our Welcomers’ Desk. Due to demand the three kings will also be travelling, departing from the crib service on Christmas Eve and returning to the family service on 4th January. This is for people of all ages, not just those with children! VICTORIAN THANK YOUs Many thanks to everyone who helped out with St Mary’s contribution to the town’s Victorian Evening and turning on of the Christmas Lights last Thursday. It was a wonderful occasion, involving lots of hard work from many people. It’s great to have the Christmas Tree Festival in church for the third year and many thanks to Felicity Bostock and Glynis Nixon in the Church Office for their sterling efforts in organising the Festival, together with Helen Fitzpatrick and Noel Reeve and everyone who is helping with the Pop Up Café. VICAR’S SERMON LAST SUNDAY One or two people were asking for copies of the vicar’s sermon from alst Sunday, it is now on the website http://www.stmaryswarwick.org.uk/index.php?/stmarys/Other_sermons_an d_addresses BIBLE READING AND A CHALLENGE FOR ADVENT As part of our 8EQ initiative around Bible Reading we have published details of the readings for the following Sunday in each week’s newsletter. We hope you have found these an opportunity to prepare and reflect. During the Christmas season, so much can pull us away from the significance of what we’re celebrating. The season of Advent brings us the opportunity to focus on the true meaning of Christmas. So, this year, we are asking all members of the congregation to make a special effort to read ahead the scripture for each of the four Sundays in Advent. We will be seeking your feedback in the New Year about how successful and inspiring you found this exercise. We would also like your help in supporting our Sunday school. Catherine Watkins, our Sunday school leader, would like to buy a number of copies of a Children’s Bible for our young people to use. If you would like to “sponsor” the purchase of a Bible please speak to her directly. Your help will be much appreciated. Also, if you have any unwanted Bibles at home to donate to our lending library at the back of Church that would be very helpful. BIBLE READING PRAYER OF THE MONTH: God of hope be with us in our Advent journey to the stable and beyond, be with us in our meeting and in our travelling together, be with us in our worship and our praying together, be with us in our Advent journey to the stable and beyond, our God of hope.
