Thank you so much to all those who have brought so much to the Chaplaincy over the last 3 months, whether it be serving on the Committee; assisting in Mass by serving on the altar, reading or playing music; cooking after Mass, being involved in NewAwakenings; stocking and serving behind the bar, and all the many other ways so many have helped us out this term. It’s been an absolute pleasure to work with you these last few months, and thank you so much for making me feel so welcome, loved, respected and appreciated. I am not exaggerating when I tell you that I have never felt so fulfilled in my entire life. All that remains for me to do is to wish you all a very happy and holy Christmas, and a peaceful New Year when it comes round. I look forward to seeing you all in January for a new Semester. Please keep an eye on our Facebook page for details about when we will be starting up again in the New Year. Until then, safe travels, merry Christmas, and God Bless Steve COMING UP! Gospel – John 1:6-8, 19-28 A man came, sent by God. His name was John. He came as a witness, as a witness to speak for the light, so that everyone might believe through him. He was not the light, only a witness to speak for the light. This is how John appeared as a witness. When the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, ‘Who are you?’ he not only declared, but he declared quite openly, ‘I am not the Christ.’ ‘Well then,’ they asked ‘are you Elijah?’ ‘I am not’ he said. ‘Are you the Prophet?’ He answered, ‘No.’ So they said to him, ‘Who are you? We must take back an answer to those who sent us. What have you to say about yourself?’ So John said, ‘I am, as Isaiah prophesied: a voice that cries in the wilderness: Make a straight way for the Lord.’ Now these men had been sent by the Pharisees, and they put this further question to him, ‘Why are you baptising if you are not the Christ, and not Elijah, and not the prophet?’ John replied, ‘I baptise with water; but there stands among you – unknown to you – the one who is coming after me; and I am not fit to undo his sandal-strap.’ This happened at Bethany, on the far side of the Jordan, where John was baptising. 14th December – Third Sunday of Advent “He came as a witness to speak for the light” “Shout to the north and the south, sing to the east and the west, Jesus is saviour to all, he is Lord of heaven and earth.” That praise song, from the band Delirious, sums up what all of our vocations are about. However God is calling us; whatever our gifts might be; we are to proclaim Christ through our lives and seek to grow in holiness. John the Baptist is the perfect example of one who lived out such a vocation of prophecy, proclamation and holiness. On this Gaudete Sunday, let’s be prepared to shout the truth in all directions. He who was, who is, and who is to come is Lord of heaven and earth. We have been chosen in Him. http://www.briscathchap.org.uk/ www.cliftondiocese.com matt.anscombe@bristol.ac.uk 0117 9140003 University of Bristol Catholic Chaplaincy, 103 Queens Road, Clifton, Bristol, BS8 1LL Clifton Catholic Diocese Trustees – Registered Charity No. 233977 St Catherine of Siena & St Thomas Aquinas THIRD SUNDAY OF ADVENT (GAUDETE SUNDAY) – Year B, 14th December 2014 Chaplain: Fr Matt Anscombe Chaplaincy Assistant: Steve Corrigan http://www.briscathchap.org.uk/ SUNDAY 14TH DECEMBER THIRD SUNDAY OF ADVENT (Gaudete Sunday) MASS – 6PM MONDAY 15TH DECEMBER WEEKDAY OF ADVENT NO MASS TUESDAY 16TH DECEMBER WEEKDAY OF ADVENT MASS – 1:15PM ‘TUESDAY TEACHINGS’ – 7:30PM WEDNESDAY 17TH DECEMBER WEEKDAY OF ADVENT II MASS – 8:20AM ADORATION OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT – 1:15PM THURSDAY 18TH DECEMBER WEEKDAY OF ADVENT II ROSARY – 1:15 PM ADORATION OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT – 6:30PM MASS – 7:30PM FRIDAY 19TH DECEMBER WEEKDAY OF ADVENT II NO MASS
