Thanksgiving (concluding with)
Move once more, O Holy Spirit, across us, the face of your new creation in
Christ, that with the cup of salvation your blood may course through our lives
and with the bread of life we may be your body in ministry to the world.
Use us as instruments of your work of salvation that others
may join our song of praise thanksgiving, not just this day at
this season but at all times in all seasons and all
circumstances.
Hymn: Broken for me

Dismissal: The peace of Christ be with you. And also with you.
May this eternal truth be always on our hearts that the God who breathed this
world into being placed stars into the heavens and designed a butterfly's wing
Is the God who entrusted his life to the care of ordinary people became
vulnerable that we might know how strong is the power of Love… a mystery so
deep it is impossible to grasp… a mystery so beautiful it is impossible to ignore.

WELCOME TO…
GOD THE HOLY SPIRIT
The Presbyterian Church of Saint David
Early Morning Service December 11, 2011
In Search of Living Faith
Silent Preparation for Worship: Reflect on the Reformation
doctrine:
Soli Deo gloria is the teaching that all glory is to be due to God
alone, since salvation is accomplished solely through the divine will
and action. How do we express the glory of God in our lives
today? “The glory of God is man fully alive.” – St. Irenaeus What
does this quote mean to you?
Come Holy Spirit
383
Prayer to the Spirit:
Into the daily cycle of our lives when all seems well with us and
with the world when our yoke is easy and the burden light
Holy Spirit, You break in And scatter our complacency
Into the daily cycle of our lives when we are comfortable and at
our ease, when the fire is lit, but eyes are closed Holy Spirit, You
break in And challenge our dependency
You break into Our daily prayers Humble hearts Lay souls bare
Holy Spirit, You break in You break in
Holy Spirit, You break in when defences are down with an Angel's
shout or the quietest sound you break in You break in
And we change And all things change When you break in.
Hymn: Oh come, Oh come Emmanuel

Introduction: We seek the Holy Spirit, For the desert places in which we
walk the streets we roam the paths we cross. We seek the Holy Spirit to guide
our feet, take us to places where you would go, give us words to use. We seek
the Holy Spirit in this Advent season of promise and preparation, the Spirit
pointing the way with John the Baptist to the Lamb of God, who takes away
the sin of the world!
Let us pray: Forgive us our sin and enter in, be born in us today. Gracious
God, our sins are too heavy to carry, too real to hide, and too deep to undo.
Forgive what our lips tremble to name, what our hearts can
no longer bear, and what has become for us a consuming fire
of judgment. Set us free from a past that we cannot change; open to us a
future in which we can be changed; and grant us grace to grow more
and more in your likeness and image, through Jesus Christ,
the light of the world. Amen.
Sung response: Lord, have mercy

Passing the Peace Let us share the peace of the Lord with one
another. The peace of the Lord be with you.
Our journey to understanding: Acts 2: 1-21 (selected)
Gracious God, by whose Spirit your people are led into all truth,
quicken within us an increasing love for the gospel of Jesus
Christ as unfolded by the Spirit...
Speak to us this day, even as you spoke to your disciples, that
we too may awaken to your will and be alive to our part in
witnessing to your love for the renewal of your whole
creation.
Reflection: God the Holy Spirit…What do we mean?
Hymn: There is a Redeemer

Affirmation of Faith: The Holy Spirit is God with Us
The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of the triune God and is One
with the Father and the Son.
The Holy Spirit is the Lord and Giver of Life,
the Renewer and Helper of God's people.
By the Spirit, God is present in the world,
the source of all goodness and justice.
By the Spirit, God convinces the world of sin
and testifies to the truth of Christ.
By the Spirit, Christ is with his church.
Hymn: Spirit, Spirit of Gentleness
399
Holy Spirit, restore our lives which, without you, are as dead.
Kindle our hearts which, without you, are cold and dull.
Enlighten our minds which, without you, are dark and blind.
Fill our church which, without you, is an empty shrine.
And teach us how to pray.
Our Father who art in heaven…
Hymn: Draw us in the Spirit’s tether
531
Lord Jesus Christ you give us contentment and life. You are the One who
gives us nourishment. We open our hearts to taste the
offering of life you bring. God be with us!
Let us lift up our hearts. We lift our hearts to God.
Let us give God thanks and praise.
