However recently there has been some movement away from the rather more specialised subject of Geology, to the more general Earth Sciences. Therefore OFFA ROCKS has designed collections and is stocking materials for the Earth Science content of the National Curriculum and GCSE courses, as well as continuing to supply materials for A level Geology. This is a completely new and very much enlarged catalogue. We list a wide range of Rocks, Minerals and Fossils, covering specimens for the amateur collector, all GCSE courses, A level Geology and much material for Degree Geology, as well as many unusual minerals and fossils for the more advanced collector. Because we are now listing so many items, we have printed the reference numbers and names of our most frequently ordered specimens in Bold Type. You will find these most useful as an introduction to the subject and for the teaching of Earth Sciences to GCSE level. Please note that many of the specimens now have new reference numbers. All rocks and many minerals are now also available by weight and these should prove most useful for experimental work. However please note that, as the sizes of the pieces are very variable, we strongly recommend that if you require specimens mainly for visual examination and reference purposes, then you use our standard size selected specimens. Our collections (see pages 39 and 40), which should prove to be of special interest to the relative newcomer to the subject (whether teacher or pupil), have been designed with the help of specialist teachers, to cater for those who find themselves short of suitable teaching specimens. We have added a number of new collections to our range and particularly recommend the new National Curriculum Rock Sets and Mineral Sets and our latest fossil collection "A Walk Through Time". We have produced a number of "Primary" collections, which are particularly suitable for more junior pupils and are proving to be extremely popular. We also supply the full range of collections recommended for use in the Salters' Science Courses and also the mineral set for the Salters' A level Chemistry (see pages 41 to 43). This is our 27th catalogue. The prices for specimens and collections should hold until June 2006, but prices of many items of equipment are outside our control and are liable to change. Price changes will be incorporated as necessary. We are pleased to design collections for any specific requirement. We are currently supplying Local Education Authorities, County Suppliers, Science Advisory Teams, etc, with new material for the National Curriculum, in both secondary and primary schools. May we help you? Although much of our business is with schools and colleges, we do welcome orders from all who have an interest in Geology/Earth Sciences. Enquiries from both beginners and serious collectors are always welcome. We look forward to hearing from you. Yours sincerely Robin Stratford March 2006 3 May we help ? Confused by the large range of items available? Let us know the purpose for which you require them and we'll be happy to suggest the specimens/equipment most suitable for your needs. 4 ROCKS All the rock types listed below are available as Selected Specimens; these measure approximately 4 x 4cm and are packed in polythene bags with an identification label. Almost all these rocks are also available as Larger Specimens, measuring approx 8 x 8cm, ie at least 4x our standard size. All rock types (except for R453, R464 and R552) can also be supplied By Weight. They are packed in 1kg bags (except for R291 - 300g, R293 - 300g and R601 - 700g). The sizes of the pieces in the bag will be a mixture ranging from approx. 1 x 1cm upto approx. 3 x 3cm. Please note that we cannot supply material graded to a specific size. Rocks by Weight will be particularly useful for class practical work in Combined Science courses and also GCSE Salters' Chemistry. However if you require rocks mainly for visual examination and reference purposes then we strongly recommend that you use our Selected or Larger Specimens. PRICES: For pricing purposes rocks are divided into two groups, A and B, indicated by Gp.A or Gp.B, following each rock description. Group A (Gp.A) Rock Prices: Selected Specimens 70p each, 5 or more of the same specimen 60p each, 10 or more of the same specimen 55p each. Larger Specimens £3.00 each. By Weight £3.50 per kg (R293 per 300g and R601 per 700g). Group B (Gp.B) Rock Prices: Selected Specimens 80p each, 5 or more of the same specimen 70p each, 10 or more of the same specimen 65p each. Larger Specimens £3.50 each. By Weight £4.00 per kg (R291 per 300g). Because we are now listing so many rocks we have printed the reference numbers and names of our most frequently ordered specimens in BOLD TYPE. You will find these most useful for the teaching of Earth Science upto GCSE level. IGNEOUS ROCKS R101 GRANITE, variety Dartmoor Granite: white feldspars; a muscovite/biotite granite; Dartmoor, Devon. Prices are as indicated; with a discount of 10% for orders for 5 or more of the same item and a discount of 20% for 10 or more of the same item. For most minerals more than one price is given and the higher the price, the larger and/or better quality the specimen. Please indicate which price you require. For the commoner minerals, where two prices are quoted, these will usually apply to specimen sizes approximately 4 x 4cm and 7 x 4cm respectively; however rarer minerals and individual crystals may be smaller.. Larger specimens of many minerals are frequently available, even if not specified; please ask for availability and prices. If you are selecting specimens for display and/or teaching purposes may we suggest that, where there is a choice of prices, you consider the higher price(s), as these will certainly be more suitable for your purpose. Minerals by Weight. Many of the minerals listed can also be supplied by weight. They are usually packed in 500g bags, but for some mineral types either 250g or 1kg - see list for details. The size of the pieces in the bag will usually range from very small upto 3 x 2cm and are particularly useful for practical work. Availability by weight is indicated by listing the price after the individual specimen price(s). Prices are as indicated; with a discount of 10% for orders for 5 or more of the same item and a discount of 20% for 10 or more of the same item. Where there is more than one price listed, the higher the price the larger or better preserved the specimen. Please indicate which price you require. If you are selecting specimens for display and/or teaching purposes may we suggest that, where there is a choice of prices, you consider the higher price(s), as these will certainly be more suitable for your purpose. Because we are now listing so many fossils we have printed the reference numbers and names of our most frequently ordered specimens in BOLD TYPE. You will find these most useful for the teaching of Earth Science upto GCSE level. Please note that many of our previous reference numbers have been changed when compiling this list. We do our best to be accurate with our descriptions, but fossils, by their very nature, are variable with regard to their size, state of preservation, etc. If you are not entirely happy with what you receive, please return the specimen(s) in good condition and we will refund your money without question. We have recently added a number of new items to our list and we now stock a wide range of replicas which have been chosen, both for their use as teaching specimens and for their value as display or collectors' items. These are reproductions of genuine fossils, the original moulds being taken from exceptionally well preserved specimens, most of them from museums. They are high quality casts, showing considerable detail, made in very hard dense plaster and in many cases with pigment incorporated. The replicas are supplied individually packed and accompanied by a brief description of the specimen. With the exception of TC03, TO70/71, BRM1, VC03 to 14, CEO1/2 and BVT1, all are UK fossils; in order to save space we have not given the horizon and locality here in the catalogue, but these details are provided with the specimens. Prices are as indicated; with a discount of 10% for orders for 5 or more of the same replica and a discount of 20% for 10 or more of the same replica. Regretfully most of our replica prices have now had to go up, but this is the first increase in more than 14 years!
