Thursday. Dr O’Brien will be joining us on Monday

Breast Cancer Awareness Week

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and Esher Green Surgery is helping to raise money for the Breast Cancer

Awareness charity.

While most people are aware of breast cancer, many forget to take the steps to have a plan to detect the disease in its early stages and encourage others to do the same

.

To raise money and awareness we will be holding a ‘pink week’ with cakes for sale and a raffle from Monday

19 th October til Friday 23 rd October. If you would like to help or make a donation please speak to a member of staff.

Electronic Prescribing Service

We went live with EPS on 22 nd May 2015 and have found it has made the prescribing and dispensing process much more efficient and convenient for both patients and staff. This new service enables prescribers to send prescriptions electronically to a dispenser (pharmacy) of the patient's choice.

If you have not yet signed up to this service please go to your local pharmacy and ask them for an EPS form. Once completed hand it back to them so they can nominate you for their pharmacy.

Winter Illnesses

As well as Breast Cancer Awareness month

October is also… Flu season!

For most people, flu is an unpleasant illness, but it's not serious. If you are otherwise healthy, you will usually recover from flu within a week.

However, certain people are more likely to develop potentially serious complications of flu, such as bronchitis and pneumonia. These people are advised to have a flu jab each year.

The injected flu vaccine is offered free of charge on the NHS to people who are at risk. This is to ensure they are protected against catching flu and developing serious complications.

You are eligible to receive a free flu jab if you:

 are 65 years of age or over

 are pregnant

 have certain medical conditions

 are very overweight

 are living in a long-stay residential care home or other long-stay care facility

 receive a carer’s allowance, or you are the main carer for an elderly or disabled person

 whose welfare may be at risk if you fall ill are a healthcare worker with direct patient contact, or a social care worker

We send out annual reminders to our patients who are eligible for the flu vaccine but if you have not received an invitation and feel you should have please speak to a member of staff.

Our flu clinics will run every Saturday in

October.

Patient Participation Group

A Patient Participation Group

PPG

(PPG) is a group of patients registered with the surgery who have an interest in the services provided. The aim of the PPG is to represent patients’ views and cross barriers, embracing diversity and to work in partnership with the surgery to improve common understanding.

Please speak to a member of our reception team if you are interested in joining the group.

There is a form available to leave your name and contact details and our practice manager will liaise with you.

The group would meet for an hour approximately every 12 weeks.

Staff Fundraising

Our practice staff enjoy raising money for charity and often take part in sponsored walks, runs and cycle events. A member of our administration team, Gill, took part in the Gower Macmarathon on

Saturday 12 th September. The walk which is now in its 18 th year is a gruelling challenge of walking 14 miles around Gower for the cancer charity

Macmillan.

One of our secretary’s, Greg, took part in Ride

London this September just gone having cycled to

Copenhagen last September for the Children’s society. Ride London takes a cue from the London

Marathon, amateur cyclists participate in the

RideLondon-Surrey 100

– a 100-mile challenge on the same closed roads as the professionals, with the added incentive of raising money for good causes. He is currently planning to take part in the

Geneva to Nice ride next year for the Huntington’s

Alliance.

Well Done Gill and Greg.
