BUDAPEST: AN AMERICAN QUEST A Family’s Journey to 1920s Hungary is an award-winning
short documentary film about two American Jews who met in Budapest and lived there from 1925-1935.
The filmmaker finds a box of their original 16mm black and white footage from the 1920s, and intrigued by
these mysterious romantic images, sets off on her own quest to discover her family's hidden history.

1) This is beautiful original 16mm black & white footage of Hungary. How did you obtain it?
After the filmmaker’s father died suddenly at age 54, her mother was cleaning out the closet and found an
old wooden box containing reels of 16mm footage of people living in Hungary from 1925-1935.
2) What was the film’s condition from the 1920s? Who restored it?
The 16mm film was in excellent condition considering its age. In fact, some of the original splices from the
1920s still held. Monaco Digital Film Labs in San Francisco restored the original 16mm film footage.
3) Who composed the original music for the documentary Budapest: An American Quest?
Robert Bloomberg, a music composer in Marin County, composed and performed all the original music in
the documentary, Budapest: An American Quest. His goal was to convey the spirit of the 1920s.
4) Have you ever visited Hungary?
Yes. The filmmaker went to Budapest and met with a Hungarian genealogist. They located places in
Hungary from the original 1920s footage where the filmmaker’s family had lived or visited.

BUDAPEST: AN AMERICAN QUEST was the Official Selection at IFFCA, the International Film
Festival of Cinematic Arts in L.A, was in the Palm Springs International ShortFest Film Market, and was in
the International Conference on Jewish Genealogy in Boston. At the Berkeley Video Film Festival,
BUDAPEST: AN AMERICAN QUEST won the GRAND FESTIVAL AWARD.
