Nativity Youth Camp Junior Counselor Application Form PLEASE RETURN BY June 1, 2011 For NYC – 2011 we may need Junior Counselors to assist the Counselors and staff. As a ninth grader, you are eligible for consideration to be a Junior Counselor. Junior Counselors must: Have completed 9th grade Be active in the parish Be active in church school and youth events Junior Counselors will be expected to: Attend and assist with camp fundraisers Attend a training session with Mr. Raymond Arcario, the Camp Director Attend camp; Friday June 17th through Saturday June 25th Help set-up and break down the camp – Camp is not over until everything is packed and we are ALL ready to drive home Participate in the Camp Eucharist at the Cathedral on “Camp Sunday”, June 26th Abide by Community Life Standards as set by the Diocese for youth events (A copy is attached) As a Junior Counselor, you are expected to assist the staff and counselors and be willing to follow their leadership and the direction of the Camp Director. The position of Junior Counselor can give you the opportunity to learn good counseling skills with the hope that you will be invited to be a counselor in the future. As a Junior Counselor, your primary job will be to assist the counselors and the adult staff to ensure that the campers enjoy themselves, are safe, and feel a part of your group by participating in every aspect of camp. Community Life Standards for Nativity Youth Camp (Conforms with Diocesan standards for youth events) 1. No illegal use of drugs and no use of tobacco or alcohol will be allowed at camp. 2. There will be a set curfew at camp. Campers and counselors are expected to abide by curfew times. 3. Everyone will be expected to attend and participate in all camp activities. 4. No “visitors” allowed during camp. A visitor is defined as a person who is not registered for camp and is unexpected. 5. No one leaves the campsite without the permission of the camp director. 6. Youth may not drive other youth at camp. All drivers during camp must on camp staff and be 21 years of age or older. 7. Visiting in cabins by members of the opposite sex is prohibited. All meetings of friends of the opposite sex will occur in designated community areas. 8. Public displays of affection that are a distraction from participation in camp will not be allowed. 9. Offensive language and offensive conversation will not be allowed. A warning will be given for breaking rules about: Curfew Language Public Displays of Affection Participation in activities Counselors will be sent home for repeatedly breaking the rules above or for breaking the following rules: Illegal drugs, tobacco, and alcohol Leaving the campsite Going to the river without adult permission and adult supervision The Camp Director will make all decisions concerning sending anyone home. If a youth is to be sent home, their parents or other designated adult will be called to pick up the youth as soon as possible.
