R 4854-0400-13325620-03
1. PURPOSE
1.1. The ST-400 fire-extinguishing aerosol generator (further it is named as "the generator") is
the volumetric fire-fighting device intended to localize and fight fires caused by tindery and
combustible liquid (petrol and other petrochemicals, organic solvents, etc) and solid materials
(timber, insulating materials, plastics, etc) and electrical equipment (power and high-voltage
installations, consumer and industrial electronics, etc), including those that operate with voltages
up to 40 kV.
1.2. The generator can be applied in vehicles under the allowable mechanical influences for the
group of mechanical execution M25 in accordance with GOST 17516.1-90.
1.3. Using the generator it is necessary to follow directions of working normative documents
(NPB 88-2001 "The fire-fighting and signal systems. Norms and rules of designing".).
1.4. The generator is not applied to extinction alkaline and alkaline earth metals, and also
substances which burn without access of air.
2. THE PRINCIPLE OF ACTION AND SOME CHARACTERISTIC FEATURES
2.1. The principle of action of the generator is based on inhibition of chemical processes of
combustion by superfine corpuscles of salts of the alkaline metals, given off during combustion
of aerosol forming charge, and capable to be in a suspension in air of a premise for long time.
2.2. The electric impulse is used to start-up the generator that allows applying the generators to
be parts of automatic fire-extinguishing aerosol systems, and in independent modules also.
2.3. The fire-extinguishing aerosol is chemically neutral, it is dielectric, it is non-toxic in
working concentration, it is easily dissolved in water. The water solution has weak alkaline
reaction.
2.4. In case of operation of the generator oxygen concentration in a protected premise does not
decrease.
2.5. After operation of the generator the aerosol is removing from a premise by airing.
2.6. The laden down aerosol is removing from various surfaces by rubbing, with the help of a
vacuum cleaner or is washed off by water.
3. TECHNICAL CHARACTERISTICS
3.1. Weight of the equipped generator without adjusting and fixing products is not more than 2,2
kg.
3.2. Weight of aerosol forming charge is - 0,400 kg.
3.3. Fire-extinguishing ability of aerosol is - 0,054 kg/sup3;.
3.4. The maximal protected volume of a conditionally leakproof premise (d< 0,001 sup3-1,
where - the attitude of total area of constantly open apertures to volume of a protected premise)
is 7,4 sup3;.
3.5. Operating time is - 44 sec.
3.6. Given off heat is not more than - 1660 kilojoules.
3.7. Overall dimensions : diameter 125 mm, length 110 mm..
3.8. Working conditions:
the interval of working temperature is from – 50° C up to + 50° C;
the relative humidity at 25° C is 98 %;
the mechanical influences are within the possible bounds for group M25 in accordance with
GOST 17516.1-90.
3.9. The parameters of the start-up electric impulse:
the start-up voltage is 12 -24 V;
the type of current is continuous or alternative;
the length of impulse - not less 2,0 sec at voltage 12 V, - not less 1,0 sec at voltage 24 V;
the resistance of node of start is 5,0 -5,5 Ohm.
3.10. The maximum current value of checking of condition of the start chains of the generator
must not exceed:
- under constant checking is 0,01 A;
- under periodic checking during not more than 2 minutes, with intervals between cut-ins not less
10 minutes is 0,1 A.
3.11. The expiration date after installation is 7 years.
4. DETERMINATION OF NECESSARY QUANTITY OF THE GENERATORS "ST400" AND THEIR ARRANGEMENT IN PROTECTED PREMISES
4.1. The calculation of necessary quantity of the generators for protection of the given volume, is
made by the techniques given in the normative documents in force.
4.2. Generators should be installed so that to provide fast and uniform filling the all volume of a
protected premise by fire-extinguishing aerosol. That is why:
4.2.1. Generators are placed whenever possible in regular intervals on the all area of a premise.
4.2.2. In case of necessary the generators can be placed by groups of no more than 12 pieces.
4.2.3. The distance between axes of the generators in a group should be not less than 1,5 of their
diameters.
4.3. The installation site of the generator and direction of nozzle apertures is necessary to choose
so that to provide the most free distribution of the leaving aerosol stream.
4.4. Arrangement of generators in protected premises should be done according to the following
requirements:
4.4.1. The distance from the generator to protecting structures should be not less than 50 mm.
4.4.2. Installation of generators on the combustible bases is not allowed.
4.4.3. The opportunity of access to the installed generators for realization of control and
preventive and regular works should be stipulated.
4.5. Using several generators for protection of one volume their simultaneous operation should
be provided.
4.6. Switching-off of the compulsory ventilation in the protected volume before the beginning of
work of generators should be stipulated.
5. THE SAFETY MEASURES IN TIME OF INSTALLATION AND OPERATION OF
GENERATORS
5.1. Working with the generator it is necessary to remember, that it includes the compound
burning without access of air.
5.2. Starting wires and the terminal receptacle of the generator are connected after finishing a
complex of starting-up and adjustment works in the whole system of fire-prevention automatics.
5.3. Designing electric lines of start-up of generators it is necessary to provide the measures
excluding beginning of currents of interference which can result unsanctioned start-up of
generators.
5.4. In the time of occurrence of a fire and operation of generators the persons who are taking
place at this moment in a protected premise, should quickly leave it, whenever possible densely
close behind themselves the doors and not try to enter the premise before arrival of divisions of
fire protection.
5.5. It is not recommended to apply generators as a part of automatic fire-extinguishing aerosol
systems in premises, which people can not leave before the beginning of work of generators as
visibility in a premise filled by the aerosol becomes completely low. In these cases it is necessary
to apply only manual control of start-up of the generators.
5.6. If it is impossible to leave the premise quickly in the time of operation of the system it is
necessary to protect respiratory organs from the influence of aerosol particles with the help of
gauze or fabric bandages.
5.7. It is necessary to know, that in operating time of the generator in front of output holes the
zone is formed in which on distance up to 0,2・the temperature can exceed 400° C, up to 0,6200° C and up to 3 - 75° C.
IT IS FORBIDDEN:
- to use the generator for manual fire extinguishing;
- to make welding or other firing works closer than 2 m from the generator;
- to use the generator having mechanical damages;
- to take apart the generator.
6. MARKING, PACKING, TRANSPORTATION AND STORAGE OF THE
GENERATORS
6.1. The numbers of consignments of the aerosol forming charge and the generator, the date of
manufacture, weight of the charge and the maximal volume of a protected premise are indicated
in the passport and on the label.
6.2. The generators originally packed may be transported by all kinds of vehicles.
6.3. Warehousing of generators is carried out in an original packing in closed premises with
temperature from + 5° C up to + 40° C and relative humidity up to 80 %, without corrosives.
6.4. The storage period of generators is not more than 3 years.
6.6 According to the instructions at an original packing piling up the generators no more than 4
on each other is allowed.
The generator matches to TU 4854-001-13325620-03.
