J. F. Webb Campus Nov. & Dec., 2012 Senior Update APPLY ON LINE: Most schools prefer the online application. It is neater and they can receive it quicker. You can register by going directly to that school’s website or visit www.cfnc.org. Visit CFNC.org to fill out your information just once but send it to several schools. You can also select for CFNC to send your transcript as well as a final transcript in June. The sooner you apply the better, because scholarships and schools can let you know of your acceptance status. You don’t need ACT or SAT scores to apply. You can have them sent to the schools later. “College Planning: A Family Tool Kit” is a great and extremely useful publication designed to improve access to college and help students and families better understand the steps of planning for college (Applying, Paying, & Enrolling), guide you through college, and prepare you for life after college. NCAA Clearing House Students planning to play or participate in a sport after high school must submit your high school transcript and must file an application with the NCAA Clearing House. This application can only be submitted on-line and there is a fee. Please visit http://eligibilitycenter.org. Before attending, see Mrs. Hicks for a Prior Approval Form. Upon returning to school, attach the Prior Approval Form with documentation from the college and submit both forms to Mrs. Hicks. College days are excused absences, but still count as one of the 8 days that you are allowed to miss. SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES and AWARDS 1) SAE Engineering Scholarships- In recognition of the important contributions made by engineers in improving the quality of our lives, particularly those related to mobility, the Society of Automotive Engineers is proud to offer a number of scholarships to qualified students who are interested in the study of engineering and related sciences. All high school students are invited to participate. Students must complete the application for admission and scholarships and submit other required materials (transcript and test scores) by the December 1st deadline date to be considered for scholarships. Students will have to complete the scholarship portion of the CFNC application prior to submitting the application and will not have a chance to go back later to apply separately for scholarships. Kennedy Library Foundation invites U.S. high school students to write an essay on an act of a political courage by a U.S. elected official who served during or after 1956. Applications are due to Ms. Green or Mr. Small by Jan. 8, 2012. 11) Meredith College Teaching Fellows - Meredith College is actively recruiting a freshman class of Meredith College Teaching Fellows for the 2013-14 academic year. Interested students can access the application and other documents on the Meredith College Teaching Fellows website at www.meredith.edu/teachfel. Completed applications are due in the Office of Admissions by January 15, 2013. Some students will be invited to interview on campus during Scholars Week-end (February 17-18, 2013) for a spot in the freshman cohort class of Meredith College Teaching Fellows. Students selected as Meredith College Teaching Fellows will receive enriched programming, including seminars, attendance at cultural events, a sophomore trip, a two year placement beginning their junior year with a mentor teacher in Wake County Public Schools, and an opportunity to study abroad. 12) Aubrey Lee Brooks Scholarship provides a generous scholarship for study at: NC State, UNC-Chapel Hill, or UNC-Greensboro. Scholarships can be renewed for up to three additional academic years, and include generous stipends for summer educational opportunities that include study abroad programs, internships and research grants. See Ms. Green (SHLS) or Mr. Small (Webb) for more information. 13) The Elon University Watson and Odyssey Scholarships are need-based scholarships awarded to prospective members of the Freshman Class. Students who complete the Watson and Odyssey Scholarship application will be considered for each of the following applicable scholarship opportunities: The Watson, Eure, Georgeo, MacMahon and Susan Scholarships. These scholarships range in value from $30,000 to $48,000 over four years and include grants up to $4,000 for global study, internships, service, research, or leadership. Scholarships are awarded on a yearly basis beginning with Fall Semester (half of the scholarship amount is awarded for Fall and the remainder for Spring).
