DISCOVER ROMANIA, BULGARIA, MACEDONIA IN 11 DAYS !!! 2011-2012 Day 1-Tour of Bucharest. Upon arrival at Bucharest, begin with a city tour to get you acquainted with the Romanian capital. You will visit the Parliament Palace, the second largest building in the world after the Pentagon, and the Village Museum, also called “Romania in a nutshell”.Visit(exterior ) the Opera House, Military Academy, National Military Club, Athenaeum and the Triumphal Arch. Day 2- Bucharest – Bran Brasov .This morning, depart for Bran Brasov where you’ll visit Bran Castle also known as Dracula’s Castle in Transylvania. It is surrounded by an aura of mystery and legends and perched high atop a 200-foot-high rock, owes its fame to its imposing turrets as well as the myth of Bram Stoker’s “Dracula”. Continue on to Brasov, where the rich Saxon Merchants lived.The highlight of the city tour is a visit to the Black Church, the largest Gothic style church in South Eastern Europe and also visit St Nicholas Church and First Romanian school. Day 3-Bran Brasov – Sinaia – Slanic – Bucharest.After breakfast,depart to Sinaia. Visit the Peles Castle, an exquisite piece of architecture which served the former Romanian Royal family. Enter the Sinaia monastery, the first beautiful Valahian-Byzantine style building. Continue to Slanic to visit the salt-mines, the biggest in Europe. The salt mine is formed out of 14 rooms. Continue on to Bucharest. Day 4 -Bucharest – Rousse – Veliko Turnovo. Depart to Bulgaria. After arrival in Rousse known as “Little Vienna” for its neoclassicism style of buildings; we will do a sightseeing tour and will visit The Monument of Liberty, The main square, Sveta Troitsa (Holy Trinity) Church and will walk along "Alexandrovska" street as well as in the city park Mladezhki (youngster's).A transfer from Rousse to Bulgaria’s old capital Veliko Turnovo. On the way we will visit The Rock-hewn Churches of Ivanovo - a group of monolithic churches, chapels and monasteries hewn out of solid rock and completely different from other monastery complexes in Bulgaria. The beautiful and well-preserved medieval frescoes of the complex now represent the iconography of XIV century. On arrival to Veliko Turnovo we will have a sightseeing tour of Veliko Tarnovo – the Medieval Capital of Bulgaria where the rich and glorious past of the Second Bulgarian Kingdom will be felt. Visit to the Tsarevets Hill which has been towered the the Patriarch church “Holy Ascending of God” and the St. Peter and Paul church. Overnight in a hotel in the center. Day 5- Veliko Turnovo Kazanlak – Plovdiv. After breakfast departure for Plovdiv. On the way there are visits to several interesting places. Drive to the “Etara” open air Ethnographic museum showing the everyday life of local people centuries ago. Next stop is the town of Kazanlak the seat of the Rose fields located at the heart of the Thracial valley. Here we visit the Museum of Roses, Museum of History and the famous 4-th century BC Thracian tomb included in UNESCO’S World Cultural Heritage. Proceed to Plovdiv. Overnight stay in the old town of Plovdiv. Day 6- Plovdiv – Sofia/ Sightseeing tour of Plovdiv. Plovdiv is one of the oldest cities in Europe on a par with Troy and Mikena. It has existed as a settlement about 8 000 years ago. It has been the capital of Ancient Thrace and a big trade centre in the Middle Ages. In the historic quarter of the city will be visited beautifully decorated houses, ancient fortress walls, Roman forum and stadium, magnificent churches. Sightseeing includes visit to the Roman theatre and Ethnographic museum, St. Konstantine and Helena Church. At the late afternoon we depart to Sofia. Overnight in Sofia. Day 7- Sofia/ Sightseeing tour of Sofia. The city has been founded 7 000 years ago. Main attractions are the Alexander Nevski Cathedral and the Crypt, National Theatre, St. Sofia church, Sofi Day 9 Sofia a’s oldest building the 4-rd century St. George Rotonda. Free time. Overnight in Sofia. Day 8- Sofia Rila Monastery – Skopje morning drive to the Rila Monastery – the biggest and most important symbol of Bulgarian Orthodox church. The Monastery has been founded in the 10-th century and rebuilt in 13-th and 14-th centuries. It is one of Europe’s oldest and included in UNESCO’S list in 1983. Behind the 20 meters walls lie impresive monastery buildings, a church and a chapel with valuable murals. Later we depart to Skopje, where we will have time to do a sightseeing tour and admire the Old town, St Spas, House Mother Theresa, Upper Town-Kale Fortress Museum of Macedonia, Mustafa Pasha Mosque. Stay for the night in Skopje. Day 9- Skopje – Mavrovo – Ohrid .In the morning we will have a transfer to the town of Ohrid (3 h). On the way we will drive to Mavrovo village in the heart of Mavrovo National Park. The road goes along the beautiful Mavrovo lake, in where we will see the halfsubmerged church “St. Nikolas”. After a sightseeing walk in the village we will head to Ohrid, located in a valley between the mountains and the transparent waters of the blue Macedonian pearl – Ohrid Lake. Overnight in Ohrid. Day 10- Ohrid – Skopje After arrival back in Skopje we will have time for sightseeing. A short climb up to the Kale Fortress is well rewarded; from this hilltop where Skopje’s masters ruled for centuries one enjoys a commanding view of the city and its environs. Overnight on Skopje.
