MAHADEVAN, MD, FACEP, FAAEM Associate Professor of Surgery/Emergency Medicine Director, Stanford Emergency Medicine International Stanford University School of Medicine BRIEF BIO: Dr. S.V. Mahadevan, Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine/Surgery at Stanford University School of Medicine, is founder and director of Stanford Emergency Medicine International (SEMI), and he co-directs the International Emergency Medicine Fellowship. Dr. Mahadevan has an M.D. from the UCLA School of Medicine (1992), completed residency training at UCLA/UCLA-Olive View Emergency Medicine Residency (1996), and has been board certified by the American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM) since 1998. He is a board member of the American Academy for Emergency Medicine in India (AAEMI) and the Global Academy of Emergency Medicine (GAEM), and he has Visiting Professor status by the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER), Pondicherry, India. He has written, traveled, and taught widely, presenting over 500 invited lectures worldwide and authoring over 100 journal articles, book chapters, and multimedia publications. He was instrumental in setting up India's first international paramedic training institute (2007), India’s first prehospital research center (2009), Nepal's first Emergency Medical Services (EMS) system (2010), India's first guidelines for prehospital care (2011) and Cambodia's first emergency medicine strengthening program (2012). He is lead editor of the textbook, An Introduction to Clinical Emergency Medicine, which was awarded the 2006 American Medical Writer’s Association Award: Physician’s Category as the top medical textbook in the United States for all specialties. Dr. Mahadevan has received numerous prestigious national and international teaching awards including the Council of Residency Director’s (CORD) National Faculty Teaching Award (2003), American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) National Faculty Teaching Award (2012), California ACEP Education Award (2011), the Stanford-Kaiser Emergency Medicine Resident Bedside Teaching Award (2003), Stanford Biodesign Faculty Teaching Award (2008), Denise O'Leary Award for Excellence (2012), the Arthur L. Bloomfield Award: Excellence in the Teaching of Clinical Medicine (2012), the Society for Emergency Medicine in India (SEMI) Excellence Award for EMS (2012) and the 4th Lifeline-AAEMI Award for the advancement of EMS in India (2013).
