COMPANY OVERVIEW
Gadaleta Steel Fabrication Pty Ltd is a progressive and steadily expanding engineering
company, which is situated in Port Pirie in the Northern Region of South Australia.
The Mission of Gadaleta Steel Fabrication is to manufacture quality fabricated steel
products, cranage and rigger services to the Mid North area of South Australia, in an efficient
and prompt manner.
This is activated by demanding a high degree of quality control at the company workshop
and on-site. This ensures that its products and services meet an optimum standard in the
market place and subsequently earns the Company a reputation for being very reliable.
The modern workshop premises has a 7 metre clearance and is fitted out with typical
engineering equipment. The total workshop and yard area is 3,000 square metres and the
handling facilities up to 100 ton.
The Director of Gadaleta Steel Fabrication, Sam Gadaleta has had many years experience
in the metal and structural steel trade. The Company's workforce ranges from 25 to 50
employees, depending on the size of contracts, with many contractors on call.
Gadaleta Steel Fabrication's scope of work covers steel fabrication ranging from light to
heavy with in-general plate, mechanical and heavy structural manufacture. Pipe fittings and
pressure vessels are within the Company's capabilities and Gadaleta's are also equipped to
work with stainless steel and aluminum.
The Company's resume of work consists of : Turnkey Projects; Project Management;
Structural - large and small; Plant/Off Site Piping; M.S.; S.S; Alloy Steel Piping; Ducting and
Hoppers; Furnace components; Dampers - Fan Housings - Chimneys and Flues;
Specialised Welding and Welding of Pressure Parts; Heat Exchangers, Cubicles; Cranage
and Rigging; Scaffolding; Installation of Plant and Equipment.
Gadaleta Steel Fabrication has its own erection crew and cranes to cater for this type of
work and the crew size fluctuates, depending on the size of the contract. Available within its
workforce is Boilermakers, Fitters, Crane Drivers, Riggers, Scaffolders and Labourers.
Gadaleta Steel Fabrication also holds a service for Sandblasting. The Blast Booth is 15m x
6m x 5m, using 600 c.f.m. compressor, 600 Lb's hoppers. It also has a licence to provide
this service on-site.

JOB SPECIFICATION
POSITION:
GENERAL MANAGER - WHYALLA
REPORTS TO:
MANAGING DIRECTOR
LOCATION:
WHYALLA
Key objective
This senior role is accountable for the success of the Whyalla site and requires a hands-on
management approach in all areas of the business including the effective manufacturing,
delivery and administration of all projects, products and services within safety, quality, cost
and time requirements.
A major focus of the role will be to develop strong relationships with key business clientele
from the mining and resource sector and to strengthen the company profile and revenue
through new business opportunities.
Scope
Although this role is located in Whyalla, the client base stretches throughout South Australia
with a major focus on Roxby Downs and may even include Western Australia.
Key accountabilities
Safety

Promote and engender a culture of safety awareness and ensure safe work practices are
maintained by ensuring all staff & sub-contractors under direction are provided a safe,
hazard free environment as dictated by the Occupational Health Safety & Welfare Act.
Communication







Liaise with its customers to ensure it is supplying the service, price and quality they
expect;
Actively liaise and consult with relevant staff members to ensure effective communication
is maintained;
Build and maintain relationships with current and new suppliers and subcontractors;
Maintain a cooperative relationship with all legislative, approval bodies and authorities,
e.g. councils, building services authority, Dept of Workplace Health and Safety, etc.
Establish and maintain an amicable relationship with local business and people;
Maintain a cooperative and good relationship with its clients and their representatives.
Actively promote the Company and its services through direct client contact as
appropriate.

Finance




Ensure client invoicing is completed to maximise positive cashflow;
Review financial reports for integrity (P&L, Balance Sheet, Budget vs Actual, etc.);
Review and authorise all supplier invoices;
Submit Capital Expenditure requests as appropriate.
Sales


Execute outstanding business development activities;
Provide recommendations to clients that will meet their desired outcomes.
Procurement


Giving consideration to the company’s purchasing policy, negotiate and manage the
efficient supply of labour and materials within scope of accountability and ensure the
quality standard required is maintained;
Ensure all requisitions are planned and submitted in advance so that timely delivery of
supplies to the site is achieved.
Management of Staff and Contractors







Assume overall responsibility for the delivery of products;
Effectively recruit and manage the team to ensure that manufacturing, delivery,
installation and/or commissioning remains on time and within budget specifications.
Ensure that any contractors used are supervised to ensure standards of manufacturing,
quality, costs, schedules and safety are maintained;
Report promptly to the Managing Director any concerns or problems that occur which
may have a significant impact of the company;
Conduct regular Tool Box Meetings and ensure accurate minutes are taken and action
items followed up;
Provide an information resource for trouble-shooting and resolution within scope of
competency;
In consultation with the MD, review wages, salaries and (if appropriate) bonuses.
Security

Ensure the site is secure at all times.
Quality and Systems

Continually improve our workshop program and hour tracking system.
Policies and Procedures

Support and promote all Company Policies and Guidelines.






Manage, guide and motivate staff;
Identify staff training requirements and encourage self improvement;
Ensure that the right person is in the job and modify where required;
Identify staff with future potential and develop plan for their growth;
Lead by example and act as Mentor / Coach as appropriate.
Reporting



Establish / maintain reporting for the following :o Sales and gross profit by project;
o Individual product costing;
Develop KPI’s for the Whyalla team;
Produce a Monthly Managers Report.
Research and Development


Investigate new product and service developments and competitor activities;
Maintain technical knowledge and regional activity.

Experience





As this role is located in ‘regional’ South Australia a community outlook and an affinity
with the ‘man on the land’ is paramount in order to build and maintain the required
relationships to ensure the operation’s sustainability;
Strong practical leadership with sound business management and organisational skills;
