POSTS AVAILABLE (from September 2009) :
Neonatal Clinical Research Fellowships (require MRCPCH or equivalent)
As part of the expansion of the Southampton Clinical Research programme in
neonatal medicine, 2 new clinical research fellow posts are available. 50% of
each fellow’s time will be spent on research. The remaining 50% of each fellow’s
time will be dedicated to clinical service provision within the neonatal unit at the
Princess Anne Hospital, Southampton. These 2 neonatal research fellows will be
supervised by an appropriate academic supervisor according to the specific
research area within neonatal medicine and by clinical and educational
supervisors for the clinical component of their post participating 50% in the
Middle Grade Specialist Registrar neonatal rota. Overall academic supervision
(and direct academic supervision if appropriate) will be provided by Professor
Howard Clark, Professor of Child Health. These fellows will be provided with
protected time and encouraged to apply for full-time formal research training
fellowship (eg MRC, Wellcome Trust or NIHR RTF) and registration for study
towards a higher degree (usually PhD). Posts will be appointed for 2 years in the
first instance but are potentially renewable to allow the completion of a higher
degree. Funding may be extended to a maximum of 4 years where the School of
Medicine considers work leading to a higher degree may be completed within this
