SOUTHAMPTON CLINICAL RESEARCH INSTITUTE NEONATAL CLINICAL RESEARCH FELLOWSHIPS The University of Southampton School of Medicine and Southampton University Hospitals NHS Trust partnership is pleased to announce 2 new DH funded clinical research fellow posts in neonatal medicine to complement the existing clinical academic training programme. POSTS AVAILABLE (from September 2009) : Neonatal Clinical Research Fellowships (require MRCPCH or equivalent) As part of the expansion of the Southampton Clinical Research programme in neonatal medicine, 2 new clinical research fellow posts are available. 50% of each fellow’s time will be spent on research. The remaining 50% of each fellow’s time will be dedicated to clinical service provision within the neonatal unit at the Princess Anne Hospital, Southampton. These 2 neonatal research fellows will be supervised by an appropriate academic supervisor according to the specific research area within neonatal medicine and by clinical and educational supervisors for the clinical component of their post participating 50% in the Middle Grade Specialist Registrar neonatal rota. Overall academic supervision (and direct academic supervision if appropriate) will be provided by Professor Howard Clark, Professor of Child Health. These fellows will be provided with protected time and encouraged to apply for full-time formal research training fellowship (eg MRC, Wellcome Trust or NIHR RTF) and registration for study towards a higher degree (usually PhD). Posts will be appointed for 2 years in the first instance but are potentially renewable to allow the completion of a higher degree. Funding may be extended to a maximum of 4 years where the School of Medicine considers work leading to a higher degree may be completed within this period.
