PRESENTATION OF A DISTINGUISHED RESEARCHER, SCHOLAR,
EDUCATOR IN THE FIELD OF LANGUAGE AND L ITERACY EDUCATION
This assignment invites you to identify, research and present a distinguished
Researcher, Scholar and/or Educator in the field of Language and Literacy and
Literacy Education who YOU believe has significantly impacted and influenced
children’s language and literacy development and who YOU are as a teacher of
language and literacy.
You will introduce us to this individual in an engaging and memorable way, share
his/her research and area(s) of interest, discuss how he/she has impacted the
field of literacy and literacy education and clearly explain and demonstrate how
we, as literacy educators, can use this scholar/educator to inform, enhance and
support our theoretical beliefs and pedagogical practices.
Requirements:
1. You should utilize technology in your presentation.
2. You should try to contact your researcher/educator – you may want to set
up an interview, request current information, ask for responses to selected
questions, or discuss current publications, presentations, or new areas of
study. Bring him/her into the classroom using audio or video tapes of
interviews or presentations or teleconference him/her in!
3. Your presentation should be 15 minutes.
4. You will be expected to prepare a comprehensive, professionally crafted
packet for your colleagues.
Suggestions:
 You will be given a list of distinguished educators/researchers that you
may select from or you may select one that has influenced your growth as
a teacher of language and literacy.
 Use the Library – they have many resources that will make this
assignment more relevant and authentic. (One source you may want to
