MERTHYR & DISTRICT CANINE SOCIETY OPEN SHOW SUNDAY 10th APRIL 2005 Not a large entry of Hounds, but there were some quality exhibits present. WHIPPET JUNIOR (6) 1. Jones’ TONMAWR LA PETITE BALLERINA JW. Beautiful brindle & white bitch, stood out for quality and her fluid movement. Lovely frame, well boned but elegant, stands over a lot of ground, my ideal for head & expression, very soundly made, just needs to tighten up all over and will then be a force to be reckoned with. So well balanced and absolutely sound on the move, with effortless and eye-catching profile action. Pleased to find she is sired by one of my favourites, whose head properties she has inherited. An easy winner of this class, Best of Breed and Group 2. 2. Milligan & Smeath’s WILLINGWISP LUV N CUDDLES 3. Harding’s DAISY IN THE MIDDLE AT CELTICGLEN WHIPPET GRADUATE (2) 1. Mulligan’s TURNSTONE ALWAYS ON MY MIND. These two dogs differed in type, this boy has a good head, front could be better but moves soundly both coming and going. A little too much forechest makes him appear somewhat unbalanced but typical of his breed. 2. Cole’s MAJESTIC DEPTHS WHIPPET OPEN (5) 1. Harding’s DRAKESOAK GOLDEN PROSPECT. Mature brindle dog, unlucky to meet BOB. Such an honest dog, very soundly made and of noble bearing, strength with elegance, well balanced and moves as well as he is made. In hard condition, I have given him a first in the past and he continues to please. A very nice example of the breed, lovely head & expression, well presented and handled, stood out in a very good class for his overall soundness. 2. James’ DRAKESOAK HEIGHT OF FASHION JW 3. Smeath’s WILLINGWISP PRIM N PROPER AFGHAN HOUND OPEN (2, 1 Absent) 1. Maroney’s ALTSIDE TRICK OR TREAT AT KIRISTAN. Mature brindle dog with much ring presence, super masculine head, proudly carried, strong jaw, good neck and shoulder, good depth of chest, very good topline and tail set with excellent carriage on the move, very sound both standing and moving. A bigger ring would have suited him as he really couldn’t get into his stride, an imposing well-made hound, liked him a lot. Alone but deserving of Best of Breed and Group 4. DEERHOUND OPEN (4, 1 Absent) 1. Paisley’s KILBOURNE MAIDA. 18 month old bitch, lots of quality, excellent hard coat, good head and soft expression, deep through the heart and well arched loin. Straight forelegs, well bent stifles, well boned and moved soundly. A bit apprehensive, I understand she has recently been re-homed, but her overall quality and gentleness was obvious. Best of Breed. 2. Paisley’s KILBOURNE PHOEBE. 3. Carr’s KILBOURNE SENECA OF MARANDIKE MINIATURE W/H DACHSHUND OPEN (5, 1 Absent) 1. Howell’s NORDACH DARE I WISPA. Well constructed and typy bitch, happy temperament, attentive to handler, lovely head, kind alert expression, good forechest, front and rear, moves very well holding her topline, strong feet and bone. Well presented winner of a good class. Best of Breed. 2. Miller’s FOXEARTH FREPENNY BIT AT PALSUZ. 3. Billinghurst’s NORDACH MR SHOW OFF AT JILJAC. 1 BEAGLE OPEN (2) 1. Howell’s CH. EMORLEN CRACKLE. Have given him a Best of Breed in the past and he is now every inch a Champion. This wasn’t an easy win as I much admired the second, who I later found was his son. What quality animals these are, both so well made and move so easily and soundly, a credit to their owner/breeders. They are my idea of what Beagles should look like, two superb examples of their breed. Maturity won the day. Best of Breed and Group 1. 2. Howell’s EMORLEN HUCKLEBERRY A.V.N.S.C. HOUND PUPPY (1) 1. Carter’s AFILADOR SPARK TO A FLAME. Well made Ibizan baby of 6 months, very worried about the noisy hall, taking everything in, but sound of temperament. Good head, expressive eye, straight front and rear, good bone and feet, moves well with a happy outlook. Everything is there, will just need time and patience to fulfil her potential. Best AVNSC Hound Puppy. A.V.N.S.C. HOUND OPEN (2) 1. Carter’s FALCONCRAG BAROUKH. Mature Sloughi, pushed hard by the young Borzoi. A fine example of his breed, full of quality and a great ambassador with a steady temperament, square in outline, well muscled and has substance yet retaining the lean racy appearance required, looks like a hound capable of fulfilling his original purpose and epitomises the standard. Powerful rear and moves freely with drive, but not moving quite as well in front today as I have seen him do in the past. Nevertheless, a worthy Best AVNSC Hound and Group 3, his second such award from me. 2. Saunders’ KENMILFORE HAL. Borzoi. A.V. HOUND PUPPY (5, 2 Absent) 1. Billinghurst’s NORDACH PRIM AND PROPER AT JILJAC. Min W/H Dachshund bitch, just preferred her better hind construction but captivated by both of these Min W/H puppies, lovely lean yet strong heads, soft expressions, strong fronts, well boned and with good strong feet. Moved soundly though in typical puppy fashion. Puppy Group 1. 2. Howell’s NORDACH JUST A JIFF. Min W/H Dachshund 3. Fearn’s DUFOSEE KASPER. Beagle HOUND GROUP 1. CH EMORLEN CRACKLE. Beagle 2.
