COURSE SYLLABUS
COURSE DESCRIPTION
The course will provide an overview of theological issues which are significant for the
Pentecostal tradition. Particular attention is given to Spirit-baptism and the contemporary activity
of the Holy Spirit in Christian life and ministry. In addition, the four pillars of Assemblies of
God mission will serve as a primary lens through which Pentecostal theological perspectives will
be approached (i.e. worship, discipleship, evangelism, compassion).
OBJECTIVES
The student should demonstrate through the academic and relational exercises of the course that
he or she has satisfactorily met the objectives of each of the following domains:
Knowledge
1. Understanding of the biblical foundations of Pentecostal theology.
2. Familiarity with historical and contemporary expressions of Pentecostal theology.
3. Comprehension of historical and contemporary challenges to Pentecostal theology.
4. Familiarity with the four pillars of the mission of the Assemblies of God
Attitude
1. Confidence in the biblical and theological integrity of Pentecostal theology.
2. Renewed appreciation for historical expressions of Pentecostal faith and ministry.
3. Confidence in the vitality and viability of Pentecostal faith in the context of the contemporary
Christian mission.
4. Increased desire to revitalize one’s personal spirituality.
Skills
1. Increased ability to preach and teach effectively on Pentecostal themes.
2. Increased ability to integrate Pentecostal theology into the practice of ministry.

REQUIREMENTS
Session
1. Read Syllabus carefully; make note of reading assignments.
2. Attend class and participate.
3. Complete reading of assigned texts. Reading Report to be submitted with final
assignments.
4. Electronic resources will be provided for daily sessions.

1. Complete all reading and report on reading report.
2. Essay I: (5-8 pages)
a. Topic: “Reflecting Theologically as a Pentecostal”
b. Using key principles of ministry like: precedes theology; the act of God is the
hermeneutical horizon for the being of God and Pentecost guarantees that Christ’s
ministry remains intact to this very day. Create an essay which states your current
understanding of Pentecostal identity in the task of theological reflection.
3. Essay II: (15-20 pages)
a. Topic: “A Focused Look Through a Lens of Pentecostal Perspective”
b. Choose one of the Four Pillars of AG Mission or the Baptism of the Holy Spirit.
c. Develop a research paper that thoroughly investigates your chosen topic by
answering the following questions:
i. Why is my chosen focus critical to a fuller understanding of the foundation
of AG mission?
ii. What happens to the foundation of AG mission if your chosen focus is left
out?
iii. What cultural qualities/realities, in your context, hinder the fullest
expression of your chosen focus?
iv. What action steps will you need to take in order to advance a fuller
expression of your chosen focus?
All written work is to be formatted according to Turabian. If your seminary doesn’t require
Turabian, please indicate which style you will use and be consistent with that style’s guidelines
throughout your submitted work.
