Graduate Certificate in Artistic Therapies
The course will be run over five workshops during the year.
Each workshop runs for 3 days from Friday to Sunday, once every 2 months
There are no assignments and no pre-reading required.
The course will be held at Kormilda College, Berrimah, Darwin
Course fees are $550 per unit (workshop), a 10% discount is given if paying upfront
for full course.

Course Outcomes
1. Provides you with specialised skills and knowledge in the therapeutic application of artistic
therapies to complement your verbal skills training.
2. Equips you with the ability to initiate, design, execute and evaluate the artistic therapy
interventions in the counselling process.
3. Develops your ability to analyse complex client cases and group processes in terms of
artistic expressions.
4. Allows you to develop an expert command of the integration of a range of artistic
therapies into the verbal counselling context.
5. Develops your ability to evaluate counselling and psychotherapeutic casework and group
work artistic interventions to take responsibility for the efficacy of the process.
Units within the Artistic Therapy Course
Claywork in Artistic Therapy (ART4103)
- 12th -14th
February
Connect with the Earth and clay as a medium to express feelings. An ideal medium
for working with men, adolescents and resistant clients. Clay arouses deep feelings
and tells the stories that cannot be easily told.
Colour Applications in Artistic Therapy (ART4102)
- 16th - 18 April
Creates awareness of the vocabulary of colour within the world of feeling that leads
to insight into human experiences in the therapeutic processes of releasing and
healing.
Artistic Therapies in Casework (ART4104)
- 11th - 13th June
Apply the range of artistic therapies including sandplay, clay and colour work to
particular clinical cases with particular attention to indications / contradictions, age,
special needs and unique client characteristics.
Drama Therapies in Therapeutic Group Work (ART4105)
- 13th - 15th
August
Invigorate therapeutic groups with colour, movement, sensing, sounding and sharing
image making. Powerfully enlivening processes for working with therapeutic groups.
Sandplay in Artistic Therapy (ART4101)
- 15th - 17th
October
Develops insight and therapeutic skills in sandplay in the counselling process
together with an experience of the use of symbol in therapy.

Emotional Literacy
The Emotional Literacy Workshop is a two day course.
It will be run in Darwin on 9th -10th June 2010
Course Fee is $350
Emotional Literacy certification is being offered to any counsellors or life skills
educators who would like to deliver this program to teachers and provide follow up
as teachers require in the future in different parts of Australia. You get registered on
our list of certified emotional literacy trainers
A Brief on Teachers
Dr Patricia Sherwood
Dr Patricia Sherwood University Lecturer at Edith Cowen, Bunbury is known for her Books,
Lecturers and Teachings on; Mental Health, Non-Verbal Communication with Counselling and
working with Children and the Indigenous Communities
Dr Sherwood is the Creator, Director and one of the 30 Lectures of Sophia College
www.sophiacollege.com. Sophia College has taught over 800 registered students accredited courses
in Holistic Counselling all around Australia. Dr Patricia Sherwood is the author of many publications,

Louise Leotta
Louise is furthering her training in psychodrama to progress towards becoming an accredited
psychodramatist. Sophia College's training in Clay, Sandplay and Emotional Literacy has enhanced
her clinical practices and let Louise to facilitate groups in schools and train guidance counsellors,
teachers, chaplains, and support staff in Emotional Literacy and the non verbal languages of creative
expression.
