Job Title: General Manager Reports to: Artistic Director Responsible for: Development Officer and Admin/Communications Officer Purpose: To support the work of the Artistic Director and team in the delivery of Toonspeak Young People’s Theatre’s artistic and education initiatives, by ensuring the general administration of the company, its offices and projects are efficiently planned and managed. Salary: £30,000 Hours/Terms: 37.5 hours per week to include evening and weekend work KEY AIMS To manage effectively the company’s financial, legal, administrative and operational matters To work with the Artistic Director and Board to develop and deliver the company’s strategic plan To work with the Artistic Director to develop the profile of Toonspeak Young People’s Theatre To diversify the company’s income streams in order to develop the financial growth and stability of the company To assist in the production of projects as identified by the Artistic Director DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION The General Manager will be expected to carry out the following duties: Finance To lead on all financial management including: preparation and presentation of annual budgets, day to day book-keeping, monthly cashflow projections and management accounts. To liaise with the accountant in the preparation of the annual accounts To communicate financial matters at board meetings and with external stakeholders Income Generation To develop a fundraising strategy to diversify the company’s income strands To prepare funding proposals and reports To liaise with funders, sponsors, donors etc Producing & Project Management To assist the Artistic Director in productions and project management To work with the Artistic Director to develop new relationships with venues, promoters, potential partners and agencies To proof and confirm freelance contracts drafted by project leads To ensure that all projects are documented and evaluated appropriately To ensure that all legal, financial and technical requirements are dealt with Marketing To work with the Artistic Director to create a marketing and audience development strategy for the company To manage the company’s digital and traditional marketing channels To develop the company’s media profile To supervise the development and maintenance of company databases To supervise draft press releases and plan, organise and oversee press and PR for the company’s work Legal To ensure Toonspeak Young Peoples Theatre’s compliance with legislation such as HR, Health & Safety, Equal Opportunities, charities legislation, Companies House and other legally required insurances and company liability Personnel To be responsible, in conjunction with the Artistic Director, for all personnel matters including recruitment, contracts, training and appraisal systems. To provide line management support to the Development Officer and the Admin/Communications Officer Board Management Organising board meetings, minute taking and distribution of papers Policy and Planning To review and update company policies in collaboration with the Artistic Director and Board To support the Artistic Director in the creation and implementation of the Strategic Plan General To co-ordinate staff and team meetings To undertake any duties which may reasonably may be requested to ensure the smooth running of Toonspeak Young People’s Theatre To maintain confidentiality PERSON SPECIFICATION ESSENTIAL Knowledge, Skills and Qualifications Track record of successful fundraising Proven financial management Excellent IT literacy Understanding of charity legislation Experience of staff management Knowledge of HR policies and practice DESIRABLE Driving License Finance experience in the charity sector Understanding of engagement and participatory practice in the arts Experience 3 years of experience in arts/charity sector administration Implementing strategic plans Project Management Experience of producing arts projects Personal Qualities Excellent communication, interpersonal & presentation skills Ability to prioritise and work under pressure Adept and quick learner Openness to working with & engaging with a range of communities High motivation and good team player with a flexible approach
