Dairy Breeds (14): A sold trade throughout reaching £160 for R H & M E Oughton, best £140+, mediums £100-£115, 3rd quality £75-£80. Weaned (3 months) from K Berry & Sons made £260. Norwegian Red from M/s Kinch reached £215. Native Breeds (65): Good entry including 45 weaned from one home. Fresh Angus bulls topped at £332 from John Millard, £315 and £295 from r J Handley & Son, £285 and £282 for K J & C Y Gough. Best £280+, medium types £220-£250. Young Hereford heifers £190 and £198 for T S F Baker, Angus to £255 for Mr J Handley & Son, £222 for C & E Best, 6 avg £192. A grand run of 3-4 month calves forward from R L W & M R Kinch saw Hereford steers with names at £365 and £442 with Hereford heifers to £225 and £255. The Angus steers topped at £365 and £330 with medium types £240-£275. Continental (39): Charolais bulls to £370 for Colban Ltd, best Simmentals today topped at £398 for M D Pike, 9 avg £340. Blue bull calves top again reaching £425 for R H & M E Oughton, £400 and £395 from L Lewis – 7 avg £340. Simmental heifers topped at £380 from J Millard £242, £270 generally, 3 superb Blue heifers from R H & M E Oughton, £300-£335, £295 from L J Scott and £285 for P J & S R Bennett. Weaned Montbelliarde steers from K B Berry & Son made a solid £412, Limousin heifers to £300 and £308. 388 STORE CATTLE 11.00 am – Auctioneer: Arthur White & Chris Voyce Averages Steers £827 (187p/kg), Heifers £741 (185p/kg) A pleasing entry sold to a very high trade despite the easing of the beef trade and the continued wet weather hampering cattle being turned out. Today saw some exceptional cattle forward with a grand run of British Blue’s & Limousin steers & heifers (18 – 24mnths) from Mr R Carter, Coaley meeting a flying trade. British Blue steers sold to £1400 (252p/kg), £1380 (224p/kg) & £1330 (237p/kg) & his heifers £1370 (212p/kg) & £1280 (211p/kg). The older cattle were in short supply with Charolais steers to £1355 (183p/kg) & £1190 (172p/kg) from Mr T Gaden, Stow on the Wold and the stronger cattle continued to trade a high levels with the best over £1100 (180 – 200p/kg) topping at £1360 (226p/kg) for an Aberdeen Angus steer from Mr R Breakspear, Stanford Dingley. The stronger heifers traded between £900 - £950 (170 – 190p/kg) topping at £1030 (188p/kg) for a Charolais from M/s T Rymer & Son, Uley. The farming cattle saw the better sorts as dear as previous weeks with the stronger sorts trading around the £1000 mark (180 – 210p/kg). Simmental steers sold to £1050 (201p/kg) from M/s A & R Merrett, Selsley with British Blues to £1095 (193p/kg) from M/s M Coole & Son with their Aberdeen Angus steers to £1180 (214p/kg). Simmental steers from Mr M Gill, The Knapp sold to £1150 (171p/kg) & £1125 (173p/kg). A grand run of Continental steers & heifers from M/s D & M Whitcombe, Minety saw Charolais steers (13 – 18mnths) to £1000 (194p/kg) with their heifers to £855 (178p/kg) & £780 (173p/kg). Aberdeen Angus steers from the same home sold to £818 (204p/kg) with their Friesian steers to £690 (160p/kg). This levy will ensure that the vendor gets paid in full for the animals sold even it is condemned. The half meated strong framed Suffolk ewes were a shade dearer trading between £85 £100 and strong plainer ewes traded between £70 - £80. Small meated ewes or medium plainer ewes traded between £60-£70 generally. Billy Goat £150. 40 EWE & 54 LAMBS 10.30 am – Auctioneer: Chris Voyce Overall Average - £110 per couple - £47.00 per life Despite the wet weather a good trade, Suffolk ewes with double lambs to £160 (£53.33 a life) from Ms S Armstrong. Zwartbles ewes with single lambs sold to £122 (£61.00 a life) from Mr N Hargan. Limousin bulls from Mr M Potter traded between 204 – 220pkg with generally 580 - 630kg bulls grossing £1387, £1329 and £1315. A 830kg South Devon bull from T E Gifford topped at £1523. Steers topped at 215p/kg for a Limousin again from Mr M Potter. Simmental steers from Mr D Hillman grossed £1321 with Blonde from the same home at £1083. A 740kg Simmental heifer from M/s J & B E Kimber sold to 172p/kg £1269. The best meat sows topped at £200 and £175 from Mr I Rabbitts with 3 sows from Mr R Barrow Jnr well sold at £170, best sorts generally £150+ with the smaller and medium sows £130 - £140, smallest and feeding sows £50 - £95. Boars traded £100 up to a top of £150 for Mr C A Handy. Plenty of smart cutting pigs on offer topping at £124 and £102 from M/s R L Hares & Son & £95-£115 from Steve Kincart. Strongest pork pigs just off cutting sold to £100 for Mr I C Carter and £96 for Mr G Rea. The best farming sorts in demand at £70 - £85 particularly wanted today were Glos Old Spot Pigs. A cracking pen of strong Old spots stores from Roy Townsend topped at £80. Jim Bennett, Gloucester sold good stores to £54 with Cyril Leonards pigs at £50. Medium sorts particular the white pigs in demand at £21 - £30 but some smaller sorts and coloured pigs less wanted and trading between £5 - £8 however the quality pigs on offer all day look a strong trade. 785 POULTRY 12.30 pm – Auctioneer: Arthur White, Bradley Towell & Richard Barrow A high entry of eggs and chicks was met with a reasonable trade.
