LAUSD NBCT Support Coach for Newly Hired Teachers APPLICATION DEADLINE: Application ongoing Overview The LAUSD Teacher Support Unit is seeking a team of National Board Certified Teachers to serve as NBCT Support Coaches for New Teachers. NBC Coaches will provide support and develop resources to assist LAUSD new hires who are ineligible for a program-specific mentor (DI, BTGDI, BTSA, etc.). This support effort will become a part of LAUSD’s new Teacher Orientation System. The program was a pilot during second semester of the 2013-2014 school year and we will build on its success for upcoming school years. Application, Time Commitment & Compensation To be considered for this position, candidates must complete the application process. This includes: submission of the application (Attachment A), a recommendation from their principal (Attachment B), and an application review. Selected candidates are required to commit to attending mandatory program training meeting(s), and up to 40 hours of program participation (teacher support). Please see the Foundations of Coaching Calendar for currently scheduled training dates. Note: due to District re-organization program parameters are subject to revision. Responsibilities Examples of duties for NBCT Support Coach include, but are not limited to: Welcome Meeting o Group or individual introduction to the new hire support program and district policies and procedures 1x per month group meeting, optional 2x per month individual meeting with each teacher supported for personal questions and needs including: o Content Support o Classroom Management o District Systems o Community, District and School Culture Required Qualifications Active NBC status for the current school year Knowledge of subject area content and pedagogy Knowledge of district policy and procedures Presentation skills Ability to travel to training site(s) to meet with assigned teachers Knowledge of adult learning theory 1 To view and complete the application form please see Attachments A & B.
