2013-14 Job Description
Mathematics Facilitator
Reports to: Christine Hall, Director of K-12 Mathematics
Duration of position: 1 school year
Compensation: Up to $1000
About Race to the Top
RTTT is a 4-year grant supporting BPS’ efforts to improve teaching practice, provide rigorous and relevant
content to students, and intervene in areas of underperformance. RTTT is a key opportunity for BPS to help
achieve the 2014 Goals of the Acceleration Agenda, which include ensuring that all students achieve MCAS
proficiency, closing access and achievement gaps, and graduating all students from high school prepared for
college completion and career readiness. This position supports the implementation of the Massachusetts
Curriculum Framework.
Project Overview and Objectives
BPS recognizes the critical need to strengthen and evolve its district- and school-level capacity to meet the goals
set forth in the district's Acceleration Agenda. Three of the core strategies the district is pursuing in order to
improve student achievement are:
1. Empowering teachers to lead instructional improvement work at their schools
2. Using data to improve instruction and drive decision-making
3. Using the educator evaluation system to organize the work of the school communities to achieve schoolwide goals
BPS will use RTTT funds to support the development of teacher leader teams at each school in the district.
These teams will include a Lead Teacher, a Math Facilitator, and an ELA/Literacy Facilitator.
