2012 TAIMC Farewell Speech Wen Hsien Sun Chairman, the Executive Board of the International Mathematics Competition. President, Chiu Chang Mathematics Education Foundation. Mathematics is not only a knowledge of human, but also a cultural. Mathematics is a spirit! Honoured Guests, Parents, Teachers and Contestants, Did you all have a good time during the past days? It is really exciting to have so many talented young people gathered in one place at the same time for a common goal. To the medal winners, I offer my sincere congratulations! To the other contestants, take this as a learning experience and work harder. If you are still eligible next year, I am sure you will come back and get better results. If you are no longer eligible, there are other competitions for you to try. The world is getting more and more technological, and a strong background in mathematics is an essential foundation for future success. The most important role of TAIMC is the opportunity to provide all students from five continents, an avenue to make friends with people of your age from other countries. For me, the World Conference on the Mathematically Gifted Students - the role of Educators and Parents, mathematical puzzle challenge to break through the barrier and the cultural night performance are the focus of our attention for the entire event . When you go back to your own country, please share all the experiences that you encountered here in TAIMC to your family, classmates and friends. Encourage your friends, family and teachers to visit Taiwan for a vacation. Although our passion is as hot as the recent weather in Taipei, we feel that there are still many rooms that need to be improved. Your constructive criticisms and suggestions will be very important to us in order to improve similar activities in the future. If you feel that you really appreciate our efforts, please feel free to write and tell our President Ma and the pertinent government departments for them to know how hard we worked for the success of this event. Because as you could observe, our government officials did not accept our insistent invitation for their active participation in any part of TAIMC. In order that TAIMC would run smoothly, there were many volunteers who gave their time in the staging of TAIMC, They worked very hard to provide us with excellent accommodation, food, transportation and sightseeing. Without their support including those who are behind the scenes, TIMC will not be a very successful event. A thousand words is not enough to express my heartfelt thanks to all of them! May I take this opportunity to invite all volunteers and committee members to come up on stage to show our sincere gratitude to them. Let us give them around of applause! Next year, IMC will be held in Bulgaria. This is the first time that this contest will be held in Europe. This will be another milestone in the glorious history of this mathematics competition. Tomorrow, we will part ways with fond memories that we have shared together here in Taipei! Maybe I will not have a chance to meet you personally before you leave, so let me take this opportunity to say “good bye” to all of you!
