MEDIA ADVISORY GE Lighting CEO donates $25,000 to Achievement Centers for Children’s ‘Intensive Therapy Clinic’ WHO: GE Lighting to officially present $25,000 check to Achievement Centers for Children WHERE: Achievement Centers for Children 4255 Northfield Road Highland Hills, Ohio 44128 Katherine Henry, Manager of Marketing Communications, 216-292-9700 WHAT: At the start of each new year, GE Chairman Jeff Immelt selects individuals and teams that have demonstrated excellent performance and recognizes them at GE’s annual Global Leadership Meeting of GE officers and other top executives from around the world. Maryrose Sylvester, President & CEO of GE Lighting, headquartered in Cleveland, was honored with a “Chairman’s Award” for External Focus. With this significant honor comes the ability to support the community with a prize of $25,000 to a charity of the awardee’s choice, Sylvester has chosen to donate the full $25,000 gift to the Achievement Centers for Children in Cleveland -- recognized as one of Northeast Ohio’s most effective agencies for the care and rehabilitation of children with disabilities. The donation will be designated to the Achievement Centers for Children’s innovative Intensive Therapy Clinic. Achievement Centers for Children is a non-profit organization that provides support, services, and programs that help children with a wide range of physical, emotional, neurological, or developmental disabilities achieve their full potential in life. Comprehensive services to children with disabilities and their families are provided through education and autism services; family support services; recreation and adapted sports; and therapy services including the Intensive Therapy Clinic. Charitable donations help to provide many critical services for families, regardless of their ability to pay. Through the Achievement Centers for Children’s Intensive Therapy Clinic, specially trained and passionate physical and occupational therapists change the lives of children and young adults living with neuromuscular conditions such as cerebral palsy. These changes occur as a result of the remarkable progress they were able to achieve in an innovative and totally individualized model of treatment used in the Intensive Therapy Clinic. For an 8-year old boy, it is the ability to walk without his crutches and the hope that someday he’ll be able to ride a skateboard with his friends ... or, a 15-year-old girl, who has had to totally rely on the assistance of her wheelchair her entire life, who now proudly stands with a walker to wash the dishes or take care of many of her personal needs. Achievement Centers for Children’s President and CEO, Patricia Nobili, said, “Our sincere congratulations to Maryrose Sylvester in being selected for the prestigious GE “Chairman’s Award.” We are deeply honored to have been chosen as a benefactor of this gift for our Intensive Therapy Clinic. This gift will allow us to give more children and young adults with neuromuscular disabilities the opportunity to experience sustainable improvement of their skills and abilities, and make meaningful progress toward their lifetime goals.” In designating the award to the Achievement Centers for Children, GE Lighting’s CEO, Sylvester, said, “The Achievement Centers for Children is a beacon of hope for children with disabilities and to their family members. I’m honored to donate the GE award money to such a worthy organization. This builds on the $25,000 award GE presented last year, as well, and on the more than $500,000 in renovations and volunteer hours by our GE Volunteers, who have supported the Achievement Centers for Children in major United Way Days of Caring – most recently again in 2011. It’s a wonderful partnership.” WHEN: Check to be presented on Tuesday, March 6, during 6:00 p.m. Achievement Centers for Children Board Meeting About GE Lighting GE Lighting invents with the vigor of its founder Thomas Edison to develop energy-efficient solutions that change the way people light their world in commercial, industrial, municipal and residential settings.
