Your continuing cooperation and understanding is essential to the success of our show. By working together, our dancers will have a very rewarding experience. After all, that's what it's all about!! There's no comparison to the professionalism and quality of what you'll see and experience!! You deserve it, and most of all, the dancers deserve it! Many thanks from the BPA Staff!! Melvie, Jordan, Jennifer, Melanie, Jessica, Jillian, Rae, Mandy, Mrs. Pam, Mrs. Jennifer and Mrs. Shirley GENERAL INFORMATION What: “Dancing Through the Year” Show Time: Saturday, May 21 at 5:30 P.M. Rehearsal: Thursday, May 19th (see class rehearsal schedule for exact time) Where: Ninth Grade Academy Recital Fee: $25.00 per student/$35 per family – DUE BY April 15th All accounts (including May tuition, late fees, recital fees, etc.) must be paid in full by May 6th or your dancer cannot participate in the show! Dressing Room Moms In order for the recital to run smoothly, quickly and professionally, students will not be allowed to sit in the auditorium. Each class must have dressing room moms who supervise the dancers in the dressing room and backstage. The sign-up book for helpers is available at the front desk. You may help in your child’s class and watch the show from the wings (an exciting vantage point!), you may help out with another class or parents in the class may choose to get together and hire babysitters (16 and older, please!). Your child’s class will not be able to perform without this supervision – do not wait until the last minute to get this covered. Theatre Rules Seating in the theatre is open. Doors will open 30 minutes prior to show time. No food, drinks, candy or gum is permitted in the theatre at rehearsal or performances. We are fortunate to be in such a wonderful facility, let's be considerate guests. Please supervise young children - no running in the theatre, lobby area, etc. No one is permitted backstage except studio staff, performers and dressing room helpers. Please remember good theatre etiquette - - remain seated throughout the performance (people getting up & down during the show is disruptive to all). Do not get up while another group or child is dancing. Please stay through the entire show, as the children who dance later in the program deserve an audience, too. Keep conversation to a minimum & show your support and enthusiasm for all the dancers through lots of applause! Please remember our policy of NO VIDEOTAPING AT THE PERFORMANCES. You may video rehearsal and you may take photos at rehearsal and/or the show (no flash photography please - use a high speed film for better photos and for the safety of our dancers!) The "no video policy" protects our choreography copyrights and there will be no exceptions! Video order forms are available at the front desk at the studio and at the rehearsals and shows. Review the show order posted on the board in the lobby. Make sure you or your child: 1. are in the dance(s) they are supposed to be in 2. name is spelled correctly 3. has at least two numbers to change costume If you have had 5 or more years of dance, check the awards list and make sure your name is on that list and spelled correctly. Rehearsal Schedule Rehearsal is a very important time for performers to get accustomed to the stage and lighting, find dressing rooms, etc. ANYONE NOT ATTENDING REHEARSAL WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO PERFORM IN THE SHOW FOR THAT REASON! Please arrive on time! Performers should sit in the audience with their parents until we call them backstage. Things will be going as quickly as possible - - at times it may seem as if nothing is happening on stage - - that's when we are programming lighting cues, setting sound levels and other technical details about each dance. After your child's last number, you will be called backstage to see their dressing rooms and then will be free to go. Plan on spending about 1 hour at the theatre if your child is in 1-2 dances. We will not be running rehearsal in program order so that younger students can be dismissed earlier. Students in more than one number should check the show order to have in mind how tight your costume changes will be. We will run the finale first then all Creative Movement and Combo classes. Once that section is over, those students may leave. We will then run the show in order with the dances left in the time frame below. We start promptly and run on schedule (barring any catastrophes)! Rehearsal will start promptly at 4:00 with the finale being run first. Please be on time. For the rehearsal, you may wear the costume for your first dance to be rehearsed. All costume accessories must be worn and in the correct place. Hair, makeup, tights, etc. must be exactly the way they will be for recital. That is the importance of rehearsal, to make sure everything is correct and won’t fall off during recital. Please make sure shoes are tied tightly and that strings are tucked into your ballet shoes. No jewelry or underwear will be worn with costumes. No exceptions. If you need to wear a bra make sure it cannot be seen and will not be seen during you dance. There will not be an intermission during rehearsal and you may leave after being dismissed from your last number. It is advisable that you do not leave between numbers. Although our goal is to stay on schedule and get you out as soon as possible, there may be times when we are ahead of schedule and times when we may fall a little behind. Remember—Anyone who does not perform in the rehearsal will not be allowed to dance in the recital. No exceptions. There will be signs posted telling you where the dressing rooms are and how to get backstage. Make sure you find out this information during rehearsal. There will be workers backstage to line up the students and workers in the dressing rooms to help them get ready. The rooms we are using for dressing rooms are class rooms and we must respect their area. Please do not write on boards or use any items in the room. If we do not leave their classrooms neat and clean, we will not be able to use them again. Recital Rules There is no admission charge. However, seating is open. We ask that you do not save seats as it is not fair to other’s children’s parents and family. Doors to the school will be open two hours before recital and doors to the auditorium will open 30 minutes prior to show time. All accounts must be current and paid in full in order to participate in the show. Recital fee is $25 per student or $35 for a family and are due April 15th. Each family will receive one free program that may be picked up at the program table the night of recital. Extra programs will be $5 each. Make sure to write your child’s name in all of their costumes, shoes, etc. Bringing a bag would help keep all of your belongings together. Please have your dancer in their dressing room 45 minutes prior to show time. Arrive at the theatre in costume with their hair and make-up finished. All costumes must be covered in the parking lot and theatre. A large button front shirt (Maybe Dad's) makes a good cover up over costumes. Please take your dancer to their dressing room, get them settled and then you can leave them with the dressing room helpers. The show will last approx. 2½ hours with a 10 minute intermission. The dancers will remain backstage in their dressing room with their dressing room helper until the end of the show. Younger students will color or play a quiet game while they wait. It's helpful if a few parents get together to supply a snack for the class to have after they perform. It should be a clear drink (Sprite or water) and a non-messy snack (pretzels are great) so that costumes aren't ruined. Please stay in your designated dressing room throughout the whole show as workers will be calling for the children in their rooms to line them up for their dances. NO VIDEOTAPING AT THE PERFORMANCES. You may video rehearsal and you may take photos at rehearsal and/or the show (no flash photography please - use a high speed film for better photos and for the safety of our dancers!). At the end of the show, there will be a finale dance where everyone participates and awards. At the end of the show, please come backstage to your child's dressing room to pick them up. For the safety of each child, no one may be released until the end of the show & NO performers may be in the audience. There will be flower tables set up in the lobby for flowers and gifts for the dancers. If you would like to have something delivered for your child, please make arrangements. There will be workers present at the flower tables to pass out gifts. Please do not remove items from the table without permission. This will add confusion to an already chaotic time. The flowers will be set up alphabetically by the students’ last name. Naps or rest time is always a good idea on rehearsal and recital days. The children are able to pay attention better and perform better if they have had a nap and have been fed well before performing.
