Rose Gagnon (Bissette/Jolie)
Rose was born October 11, 1850, to Maxim Gagnon and Angele (Mary) Dudtre. Before
1876 she was married for the first time but I don’t know who her 1st husband was or if
they had children.(1) In 1876 she married Joseph Bissette in Montreal, Quebec.. Joseph
was born June 1846 in Montreal, Quebec. Abt 1878 she came to Saginaw with her
husband. They resided on the South Side on 224 River St. Her husband Joseph worked
in the old Rust mill for many years. They were members of Holy Family Catholic
Church on Washington Ave. (2) They had 7 children; Josephine born February 4, 1883,
Ceclia (Elilia) born February 23, 1882, Moses born May 1878, Rose born September
1892, John born April 28, 1889, female daughter born ?? and Aleck Cotie born ??.(3)
Joseph Bissette died January 10, 1911 at his residence at 11:45 a.m. of a stroke of
paralysis which he suffered from on the previous Monday morning and he never regained
Consciounes.
Their son John married October 4, 1911 to Pearl Osborn in Saginaw Co. (8)
Rose remarried Joseph Jolie August 22, 1916 at the age of 60 years. Sometime after her
marriage she moved to Oakland City, Alameda Co., California. In 1930 she was living in
a household as a housekeeper for Virgil Norton and his children. (4) He resided at 1335

Bissette - Joseph Bissette, a well known and popular man of th esouth side, passed away
yesterday morning at his residence, 224 River Street at 11:45 o'clock of a stroke of
paralysis, which he suffered last MOnday morning and from which he never regained
consciousness. He was born in Montreal, Que., 65 years ago and was married there to
Miss Rose Gavyoun in 1876. He has lived at the south side ever since coming to this city
some forty years ago, and worked in the old Rust mill for many year. He is survived by
his wife and seven children, Mrs. J.D. Wood of Chicago, Mrs. J.O. Campbell of Mason
City, Iowa, Mrs. Henry Glave and Moses of Long Beach, Cal., Rose, John and Aleck
Cotie of this city, also seven grandchildren. He was a member of the church of the Holy
Family, from where the funeral will be held probably on Monday.
