Scholarship Awards
I. Information About the Scholarships
The Friends of the Library Dean Elinor F. Foster Scholarship
The UNCP Friends of the Library Dean Elinor F. Foster Scholarship is a non-endowed fund established to
assist one undergraduate student per year at UNCP, depending upon fund availability. The purpose of this
fund is to provide financial assistance with tuition and fees.
Candidates for consideration of this award shall be full-time undergraduate students in the sophomore,
junior, or senior year of study at UNCP meeting a 3.0 minimum GPA standard restriction. Candidates may
be pursuing a degree in any major. Transfer students must have completed one semester at UNCP to be eligible
to apply for scholarships. The award is renewable but candidates must reapply each year.
When awarded, the award shall be credited to the recipient’s account in the amount of $500.00 each fall and
spring semesters following announcement of the award recipient.
The Ben Chavis, Grandmother Lela Locklear Chavis and Great-great grandfather John Archie
Locklear/Friends of the Library Endowed Scholarship
The Ben Chavis, Grandmother Lela Locklear Chavis and Great-great grandfather John Archie
Locklear/Friends of the Library Endowed Scholarship is an endowed fund established to assist one student
pursuing an undergraduate degree in a math or science-related field of study. Candidates for consideration
of this award shall be full-time undergraduate students in the sophomore, junior, or senior year of study at
UNCP meeting a 3.0 minimum GPA standard restriction. The award is renewable but candidates must reapply
each year.
When awarded, the award shall be credited to the recipient’s account in the amount of $500.00 each for the fall
and spring semesters following announcement of the award recipient.
The Friends of the Library Endowed Scholarship
The UNCP Friends of the Library Endowed Scholarship is an endowed fund established to assist one
Honors College student per year at UNCP, depending upon fund availability.
Candidates for consideration of this award shall be full-time undergraduate students in the sophomore,
junior, or senior year of study at UNCP meeting a 3.0 minimum GPA standard restriction. Candidates may
be pursuing a degree in any major. The award is renewable but candidates must reapply each year.
When awarded, the award shall be $500.00 per student per award and shall be credited to the recipient’s
account.
The Friends of the Library Dr. Anthony R. Curtis Endowed Scholarship
The UNCP Friends of the Library Dr. Anthony R. Curtis Endowed Scholarship is an endowed fund
established to assist two undergraduate students per year at UNCP, depending upon fund availability.
Candidates for consideration of this award shall be full-time undergraduate students in the sophomore,
junior, or senior year of study at UNCP meeting a 3.0 minimum GPA standard restriction. Candidates may
be pursuing a degree in any major. The award is renewable but candidates must reapply each year.
When awarded, the two awards shall be $500.00 per student per award and shall be credited to the recipient’s
account.
The Friends of the Library Dr. Raymond J. Rundus Book Scholarship
The UNCP Friends of the Library Dr. Raymond J. Rundus Book Scholarship fund is a non-endowed fund
established to assist up to four students per year at UNCP, depending upon fund availability. The purpose of
this fund is to provide financial assistance with textbooks and/or course related materials.
Candidates for consideration of this award shall be full-time or part-time graduate students or
undergraduate students in the sophomore, junior, or senior year of study at UNCP meeting a 3.0
minimum GPA standard restriction. Candidates may be pursuing a degree in any major. The award is
renewable but candidates must reapply each year. This is a need-based scholarship. In order to qualify, your
financial need has to be assessed. You must fill out a FAFSA form. (https://fafsa.ed.gov/)
When awarded, the award shall be $300.00 per student per award and shall be credited to the recipient’s
University Bookstore account.
Only one scholarship award per student will be provided per academic year.
II. APPLICATION PROCEDURES
A. An application form, including the required essays, must be typed and completed with the appropriate
box checked for each scholarship applied for and a copy of a UNC Pembroke transcript provided with
the application (a BraveWeb copy is acceptable). If a UNCP academic record has not yet been
established, a transcript of the applicant’s most recent academic record may be submitted.
B. Application materials should be placed in a sealed envelope and mailed to the Library or dropped off
at the Circulation Desk of the Mary Livermore Library attention to the Dean’s Office.
(Please do not staple or fold application)
C. Application deadlines for all scholarships is March 1 or the first business day thereafter, should
March 1 fall on a Saturday, Sunday, or holiday.
III. STATEMENT OF ADMINISTRATION
Funds will be awarded as available. Award selection, based on the above-stated criteria, shall be made by
the Board of Directors of the Friends of the Library of The University of North Carolina at Pembroke,
whose decisions shall be final.
