Greystone Nature Preserve is offering internships to students of all departments for
the Spring and Summer of 2011.
Length of internship and hours are flexible. Duties will incorporate your interests and
skills and our needs.
Duties fulfilled by our current intern: completing IRS forms for 501(c)3 status, designing
and teaching nature programs, planning nature-related events, updating the website,
designing a logo and signs/posters, taking care of the arboretum trees (including mowing
and watering), mapping trees with GPS, researching and writing a guide to the trees of
the arboretum
Projects we need help with:
• Planning innovative nature-related events such as speakers, musicians, and cultural
events (especially Native American)
• Compiling an All Taxa Biodiversity Inventory of species at the Preserve
• Planting, mapping, and caring for trees within the Arboretum
• Removing invasive species from woodlands
• Designing and building trails through the preserve
• Designing and teaching nature programs
• Leading nature walks
• Improving the website
• Marketing nature programs to interested groups and fostering partnerships
• Writing grant proposals
• Recruiting volunteers
• Designing and implementing rainwater and energy-saving (wind and solar) systems
• Maintaining and nurturing native species gardens

You could commute (7 miles from downtown Fredonia) or room and board are available.
Choice of accommodations, including 22-foot tepee, 10x15 tent, 15x20 cabin with wood
stove, or bed within family house. Board would include a wide variety of wholesome
organic home-grown and local foods plus home-grown eggs.
