Tribal Solid Waste Education and Assistance Program
Composting Strategies for Tribes
The Institute for Tribal Environmental Professionals will be offering our "Composting Strategies for Tribes"
course in Tucson, Arizona, March 15-17, 2016, for employees of federally-recognized tribes. This course will
focus on developing effective and sustainable composting programs for tribes.
 This course will have a strong emphasis on creating and running composting programs as businesses.
Instructors will be spending a good amount of time on developing a business plan, researching creative
funding opportunities and partnerships, equipment needs, facility design and operations, as well as the
science of composting.
 This course will also feature several small group activities so you can work directly with your fellow
tribal professionals, putting into practice what you learn during the lectures.
 Attendees will be touring a composting project on tribal land. This project is a partnership between the
University, the City, and the Tribe at the San Xavier Co-op Farm.
 This course will be limited to twenty participants. We anticipate a high degree of interest in this course,
so a maximum of two applications from any one tribe will be considered.
 We will be reviewing all applications as we receive them, and select the successful applicants. So the
sooner you submit your application, the better your chances are for being selected.
 Those individuals selected to attend the course will have their lodging expenses covered by ITEP. All
participants are responsible for their own travel and per diem expenses.
If you are interested in applying for this course please submit the following application to ITEP via email or fax.
