NICHOLAS C. VAKALIS M.D
Professor of National School of Public Health
Studies:


Born in 1944. Received his Medical degree from Aristotelion University of
Thessaloniki and a Doctorate degree from the University of Athens.
He has been trained in Clinical Microbiology at the Childrens Hospital “Agia
Sophia”and the military Hospital of Athens, and in Public Health at the Athens
School of Hygiene.
Post Doctorat studies:

Postdoctoral training in Parasitology and Tropical diseases at Louisiana State
University Medical Center (USA)
Career and Titles:


Served as Director of the Microbiology Laboratory of the 401 Military Hospital of
Athens and NIMTS Veterans Hospital and has been recipient of numerous honors.
Currently Professor of Parasitology, Entomology and Tropical diseases at the
National School of Public Health in Athens, Greece.
Current research:




Laboratory diagnosis and control of Tropical, Parasitic and Opportunistic
infections.
Prevalence and control of Parasitic infections (In the Prefectures of Ioannina,
Florina and Serres) Interreg II Program
Prevention and control of arthropod-borne diseases. Interreg II Program
Action design for vector control with emphasis to: a) the control of imported
malaria cases and prevention of malaria reemergence. B) Prevention and early
diagnosis of other than malaria arthropod-born diseases.
