Role Title: Senior Community Coach (including disability coaching) Reports direct to: Joint Head of Community (Operations) Other details: Salary/Benefits: £14,000 to £16,000 pro rata Hours: 37.5 Hours per week This role does include regular evening and weekend work Role Purpose This role will be split with two areas of responsibility. When working on our ‘core activity’ offer, the Senior Community Coach supports the Area Development Officers by taking an active lead in the planning, delivery and monitoring of a coordinated programme of high quality, professional coaching activities. The role specifically involves acting as a lead coach within the organisation regarding disability football and sport. Overseen by the Inclusion Manger, the Senior Community Coach will work in partnership with key stakeholders such as Birmingham County FA, The Football Association, schools and other partners relating to disability provision. Accountabilities Key Tasks To prepare and implement well-structured and progressive coaching programmes ensuring a high quality, enjoyable coaching experience centred on the needs of the participants To coach in a range of sports and deliver SBitC initiatives where required (e.g. healthy eating workshops) To act as the lead coach on-site at out of school hours sports clubs, holiday courses and Saturday clubs encouraging attendance in particular by children who do not usually participate in sport To effectively supervise, mentor and direct Community Coaches, volunteer, apprentices and work experience students where appropriate To carry out administrative duties as necessary e.g. maintain accurate attendance registers, collect monies, carry out risk assessments, etc. To maintain current knowledge of relevant National Governing Body programmes, policies and practices To maintain current knowledge of the National Curriculum for Key Stage One and Key Stage Two pupils To develop and maintain effective and positive working relationships with all partners and community organisations Disability Provision Deliver coaching activities under the guidance of the Inclusion Manager in line with the FA Disability Football Development Fund requirements Work with key stakeholders to increase participation, coaching and volunteering by those with a disability Plan, develop and deliver projects and activities specifically relating to the development of disability football in partnership with Birmingham County FA and other partners Act as a senior coach on behalf of SBitC on the BCFA West Midlands Regional Cerebral palsy centre of excellence Act as a lead coach on the ‘Short Breaks’ disability holiday activity scheme Finance Work with the Inclusion Manager on the financial management of disability activities (including raising invoices, cash handling etc.) Other To be a positive role model, creating a positive and fun environment in which to motivate and encourage young people to participate in sport or physical activity Agree to abide by a code of conduct and carry out duties in accordance with Sky Blues in the Community’s policies and procedures; including equal opportunities, child protection, health and safety at work etc. Ensure that all core activities and projects are delivered to the very highest standard To be committed to continuous professional development relevant to the post and personal training needs supporting future career advancement To undertake other duties and responsibilities as required from time to time commensurate with the grade of the post To agree to abide by a code of conduct and carry out duties in accordance with Sky Blues in the Communities policies and procedures; including equal opportunities, child protection, health and safety at work, etc. Knowledge, Experience, Skills and Qualifications Knowledge: Relevant knowledge and experience of sports development, including club and coach development Knowledge of relevant governing body programmes, policies and practices Good understanding of Child Protection, Child Development, Health and Safety and Sports Equity principles, policies and procedures Knowledge of Key Stage 1 and KS2 National Curriculum relating to sport Experience: Essential Minimum of two years experience working in a sports coaching setting Sports coaching and leading sports programmes Experience of coaching in a wide range of environments including schools, club and community settings Experience of developing school/club links Desirable Experience of working or coaching those with a disability Experience of mentoring, supporting and encouraging coaches and teachers Experience of tutoring, supervising and coordinating sports coaches and volunteers Experience of monitoring and evaluation impact of sessions/programmes Experience of working to performance targets Skills and Qualifications: Essential Ability to develop and implement high quality, varied and creative coaching sessions focusing on a young person-centred approach Ability to inspire, motivate and encourage people of all ages through sport Ability to adapt sessions appropriately dependent on the needs of young people.
