Health and Social Apprenticeship and Diplomas at
Level 2 and 3
Truro and Penwith colleges offer the following
Apprenticeships and Diplomas:
Health and Social Care – BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma
The BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care is suitable for people who
wish to follow a career in the caring service, and is equivalent to three A Level
qualifications. The course will give the student a broad-based introduction to
career in health and social care.
This course takes 2 years to complete and it is made up of a mixture of work
placed observations and time spent in college.
Entry Requirements:
4GCSE passes at grade ‘A’ to C or First/Level 2 Diploma in a relevant subject.
NB. For most progression routes, Maths, Science and English will be needed at
grade C
Health and Social Care (Social Care) – BTEC Level 3 Extended
Diploma
The extended Diploma in Social Care provides a broad insight into the caring
profession and considers the skills and qualities required to work with a range of
client groups.
This course takes 2 years to complete and it is made up of a mixture of work
placed observations and time spent in College.
Entry Requirements:
4GCSE passes at grade ‘A’ to C or First/Level 2 Diploma in a relevant subject.

grade C.
Please note that GCSE Grade C or above in English is an requirement for this
course.
Health and Social Care (Adults) for England apprenticeships at
level 3
Key skills are an integral part of their apprenticeship; ensuring learners are
prepared and supported to develop their English, maths and IT before
embarking on the qualifications
Apprenticeships are suitable for anyone working in a health and social care role
whose responsibilities extend across a wide range of activities. An apprenticeship
is a framework of study which will provide individuals with a range of
qualifications
This course will take one year to complete and it is made up of a mixture of work
placed observations and time spent in College.
Entry Requirements:
There are no formal entry requirements to access an apprenticeship; however
you will need to be working 30+ hours per week in paid employment within the
sector to undertake the apprenticeship.

Course can be fully funded subject to eligibility. Your employer may need to
make a contribution.
Learners must be working 30+ hours in the sector and carry out a range of
activities
Costs:
The majority of the training costs delivered by the college for Apprenticeships
are funded. There is a required employer contribution towards this as follows:


Apprentices aged 16 – 18 = free
Apprentices aged 19+ = Employer contribution of £500 or 750 for the
larger organisations
Employers must pay Apprentices a wage (minimum of £2.73 per hour).
Apprenticeships at Truro and Penwith College are only available to businesses in
Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

Austell or Saltash and offer the following:
Health and Social Care EDEXCEL Diploma Level 2
This course is suitable as an introduction to working in the health and social care
sector
This is a one year course is an introduction to working in the health and social
care sector. It is ideal for those that wish to work with children, adults and the
elderly.
Entry Requirements:
You must be a least 16 years of age with a minimum of four GCSE at grade D or
above, which must include English, maths and science.
You may also be required to study Functional Skills or have the opportunity to
upgrade your GCSE in English or Maths.
Health and Social Care EDEXCEL Extended Diploma Level 3
This course aims to develop the skills required for a wide range of health and
care- related careers and offers a route to higher education.
Entry Requirements:
You should be 16 years of age with a minimum of 5 GCSE passes at grade C or
above in relevant subjects, including Maths, English and Science subjects. We
can also accept students who have completed an equivalent Level 2 qualification
such as Diploma at Level 2.
Health and Social Care EDEXCEL BTEC Diploma Level 3
The BTEC Diploma in Social Care provides a broad insight into the caring
profession and considers the skills and qualities required to work with a range of
client groups.
Health and Social Care for England CG Diploma Level 2 (Adults)
This course is suitable for people working in Health and Social Care settings e.g.
Care Assistants, Healthcare Assistants, Support Workers, and Care Workers.
Health and Social Care/Social Science and Mental Health apt awards Access to
HE Diploma Level 3 (E)
This is a one year course is an introduction to working in the health and social
care sector. It is ideal for those that wish to work with children, adults and the
elderly.
This course is suitable for as a stepping stone to enable motivated, enthusiastic
people to progress on to Higher Education.
