TRAVEL AND HOW TO FIND US - Mechanical Engineering University of Sheffield
Our main base is in the Sir Frederick Mappin Building which is situated on Mappin Street (see building no 170
on the map: http://www.sheffield.ac.uk/visitors/mapsandtravel/university )
On arrival enter the building through the main entrance on Mappin Street where our porters will able to
assist you.
CAR
We recommend that visitors travelling to us by car use the Supertram Park and Ride facility. Alight from the
tram at the West Street stop. See grid reference H3 on the enclosed map.

If you choose not to use Park and Ride we recommend the pay and display car park situated on Portobello
Street (Q PARK). It is close to the Sir Frederick Mappin Building, and allows all-day parking. See grid

TRAIN
Trams depart from Sheffield train station. Take the yellow or blue route tram services towards Middlewood
or Malin Bridge and alight at the West Street stop. See grid reference H3 on the map.
To return to Sheffield Train Station by tram, you must board on West Street opposite Tesco and catch the blue
route service towards Halfway.
Bus - we recommend that you catch the number 120 going to Fullwood (frequency approximately 10 mins).
The bus leaves from Sheffield Interchange (which is directly opposite the train station) alight at the Mappin
Street stop (Just after Tesco). See grid reference H4 on the enclosed map.

On foot – it takes roughly 20 minutes to walk to the Department from the coach/train station. Ideally you
should follow signs from the station to the Winter Gardens / Millenium Gallery and after that to the City Hall.
West Street is just behind the City Hall and it is very easy to find Mappin Street from there, as it is more or
less opposite the Tesco Superstore.
