Their inclusion does not imply that they are mandatory or that they are the only resources relevant to the course. 2015/39225v3 APPLICATION FOR PERMISSION TO ENROL IN A WACE LANGUAGE COURSE IN 2016 Applying for permission to enrol in a WACE language course All students intending to enrol in a Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE) language course in 2016 are required to complete an Application for permission to enrol in a WACE language course. This process ensures that each student is enrolled in the course best suited to their linguistic background and educational needs. If you have previously applied, you are not required to submit another application unless your circumstances have changed. Supporting documents The following documents can be found at wace1516.scsa.wa.edu.au/languages/ and are provided to support you in completing: Application for permission to enrol in a WACE language course Statutory declaration Sample application with annotations. Information to be provided by you and your school Your application must include: a copy of all your secondary school reports for Years 7, 8, 9 and 10 from the school/s attended in Australia a copy of your school enrolment form giving details about language(s) spoken at home by you and your parents/guardian. You may be requested to provide further information to clarify aspects of your application. If you have travelled to and/or resided and/or attended school in a country or place where the language in which you wish to enrol is used for communication, you are also required to include: passport pages or visas showing your name, place of birth and nationality and authenticating the date of entry into Australia as a resident passport pages confirming time spent in-country (entry/exit stamps and visas) a copy of reports or official attendance records from the overseas school/s you attended, with the language of instruction used at the school clearly indicated. Note: If you are a first language speaker of the language for which you are applying, you need to complete only page 1 of the application and your school must complete Section 5. Due dates Your school must submit your application to the Authority by: Friday 31 July 2015 or earlier if they start the 2016 school year in Term 4, 2015 Friday 28 August 2015 or earlier if they start the 2016 school year in Term 1, 2016. Once your application has been processed you and your teacher or school contact person will be notified by email of the course in which you are permitted to enrol. Submission Please ensure all relevant documentation is included when your application is ready for submission. Your school may submit your application prior to the due date. Incomplete forms will be returned to the school for completion. You must meet all the criteria for enrolment. Page 2 APPLICATION FOR PERMISSION TO ENROL IN A WACE LANGUAGE COURSE IN 2016 Application process for Year 11 languages courses Student reads the information provided on pages 1–4 of the application, collects the required documents, completes the relevant sections of the application and submits it to their school. The student’s school completes relevant sections of the application including the Principal’s declaration. The school submits the application to the Authority by the required date. Authority administration staff check the applications are complete. Where the application is incomplete or required documents are not included, the application is returned to the school for completion and re-submission. Authority consultants process the application and determine the course in which the student is permitted to enrol: Second language Background language First language The student accepts the determination and enrols in the course. The Authority sends an email to the teacher/school contact person and to the student informing them of the course/s in which they are permitted to enrol. The student appeals the determination (an appeal application with additional information must be submitted). The Authority Appeal panel reviews the determination. The Authority sends a letter to the teacher/school contact person and to the student informing them that the original determination has been reversed.
