I believe that active involvement in our professional organization is the cornerstone for the advancement of the nurse anesthesia profession. Maintaining educational standards for future and current nurse anesthetists is one of the most vital components of providing safe and effective patient care. The Education Committee is charged with maintaining the standards that programs and faculty members abide by to achieve a goal of excellence. As the transition is made to elevate the preparation of nurse anesthetists to the doctoral level by 2025, the Education Committee will have the continued opportunity to serve as a beacon and voice for educators and accredited programs. I believe that my previous experience and current motivation to serve makes me an ideal candidate as Student Representative to the Committee. During my 13 years as a nurse, I have demonstrated a passion for professional involvement. I have held multiple volunteer positions with the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN). I have also gotten a great deal of satisfaction out of teaching student nurses in a baccalaureate program and preparing registered nurses for their role in critical care as a preceptor and ICU educator. I have a Masters in Nursing Education, where I learned many foundational principles for achieving excellence in nursing education. These opportunities have enabled me to have an understanding of the vital importance of educational standards and advancement. I also look forward to the work involved with my role as Student Representative. I have excellent organizational and public speaking skills, which I feel will enable me to be successful at the demands of the position. More importantly, I hope to learn from the CRNA’s on the Education Committee and take that knowledge back to my fellow student nurse anesthetists. It is my hope that I may be able to instill my passion for education and professional involvement in other students and grow the active student representation in the organization. I would also like to be a voice in the professional community to raise awareness about the rigorous standards and minimum of seven years of educational preparation we undertake to become safe anesthesia care providers. I believe that my past experience has prepared me for this role, and I would greatly appreciate your vote for the Student Representative to the Education Committee.
