After two years at KU I got into the restaurant business, Howard Johnson's on the turnpike, The
Sheraton Corporation in Shreveport and Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Holiday Inn in Louisiana,
Mississippi and Kansas and finally with Concord Companies out of Lincoln, Nebraska (Village
Inn, Applebee's, and Famous Dave's) for 13 years. In 1988 I started my own company, A & A
Vinyl, Inc. in Lincoln, where we fabricated, retailed, and installed vinyl fences, decks, pergolas
and gazebos. I closed up shop and moved back to JC with dad and I am enjoyed being with him in
his golden years. As far as today, I am preparing for my second childhood, to be determined.

Left Kansas with the Burgundy Street Singers (seven years with them), then commercials, Vegas

between marriages, married Gordon. Played piano and sang at hotels around LA and gave
concerts of my original music. My present incarnation is as a music teacher, both piano and voice,
with about 30 students a week. I will be President of the South Bay Branch of the Music
Teacher’s Association this year. I also perform in a duo with another teacher, who is a classical
violinist; we do classical and Broadway with two others women as the Prima Divas. I am very

We purchased the Belleville Cable TV company in 1970, added six more companies before selling
it all in 2001. Always active with my children: school, scouting, up through the After Prom party
for the high school. Volunteer work with the library, the picture-lady program to introduce art
work, Free University, Chamber of Commerce, especially with Christmas lights and programs.
From that volunteer work, I built a catering business in Belleville, Manhattan, JC and Concordia,
and then became a wedding consultant. Started Kansas Baskets to promote Kansas products
approved by the Department of Agriculture, first for Bloomingdales, then to most of the US and
several foreign countries. . . could have become a very good business, but kept me too busy.
I am a breast cancer survivor, and have done the Avon Breast Cancer Three Day Walk and raised
money for the Susan Korman Breast Cancer Foundation. In Colorado, we volunteer at Harmony
Horseworks, a shelter for horses that are abused, neglected or no longer wanted, and made
available for adoption. I enjoy my grandkids, reading and travel . . . one day I’d like to see Egypt.

every winter weekend at our deer lease, using our camera more than a gun! I am still an avid
reader, and those winter week-ends are when I catch up with novels I have put aside. Travel a lot
on my job, so not much spare time. We have also started “cruising” and hope to do a more of that.

Graduated from Emporia State University with a degree in Secondary Education. I married my
wife, Mary in 1972 and settled in Topeka, Kansas where we have lived ever since. I began
teaching Automotive Technology at Topeka High School in 1974 and a few years later began
coaching Cross Country and Track, retiring in 2009 after spending my entire career at Topeka
High. We participated in the same league as JC and one of the highlights of my coaching career
was defeating good ol' JC for the League Boys Cross Country title two years in a row.
Mary and I both enjoy bicycling and have ridden our bikes on many adventures. When Jenni lived
at home we bought a bicycle built for three that we rode all over Kansas and to cycling
conventions in many states. Since Mary and I are both retired now we spend our days cycling,
working on our house and visiting friends and family in Colorado, California, Florida,
Washington, and Arizona when we get the wanderlust.
Spouse: Mary, who majored in Elementary Education with a masters in Media Sciences and was
an elementary school teacher and librarian for many years in the Topeka Public Schools. She
retired in 2005. We had our only child, Jenni, in 1976 and she graduated from Topeka High
School where she took all the music classes available. She attended Oberlin Conservatory in
Ohio, got her masters from Rice University in Houston and is now a professional bassoonist,
playing with the Naples Philharmonic in Naples, Florida most of the year and also playing with

Left Kansas in 1968 to travel to my birthplace in Germany, and lived and traveled throughout
Europe until the fall of 1970, when I came back to JC and got a job at Gibson’s, in the automotive
department . . . where I worked for Carl Bierbaum. Carl and I were married in 1971. After six
years in Bentonville AR, we returned to Junction City, where we restored houses, office and
14
apartment buildings. We also helped set up the Geary County Historical Society, and I was the
first curator of the Society museum. I have traveled all over the world, had interesting jobs, and I
feel very lucky to have been a home maker most of my life! Now we are happy to spend as much
time as possible with our kids and grandkids.

I am an executive with a large privately owned resort wear manufacturing company, and have
lived in Miami for 25+ years. I have been married for eight years, to a man who treats me like a
princess! My husband and I both enjoy the theatre, skiing (he’s a chiropractor, so that’s a
blessing), tennis (when it is not smoldering hot in Miami) and travel. . . . One of my passions is
traveling to Europe and Israel. Now we are exploring the good ‘ol USA, including my favorite
spot, New York City, especially its museums. My husband was a pilot in the Air Force and we
have recently purchased a small airplane for him to indulge his flying passion. I am still getting
26
up the nerve to take flying lessons, but old age makes us do stupid things, so I may gear myself up
to do it soon! After my father’s death in 1992, I brought my mother down to live here in 1994,
and am now dealing with her stage one Alzheimer’s. Junction City was a wonderful town which
holds great memories for me; it was a great place to grow up in, at that time we were growing up.
I hope I will be able to make it to the next reunion . . . it would be nice to see some of the people
who made life in school impossible for some and those whose lives at school were made
impossible by others.

After a year at K-State, I was ‘invited’ (read drafted) into the Army, and recognizing it as a one
way ticket to Viet Nam, I enlisted in the Air Force, which sent me to . . . Da Nang Viet Nam.
After two tours, I got to Homestead AFB, FL and joined an elite Air Force flying unit as an
Airborne Communications Specialist qualified as a linguist (Spanish, Hebrew and Russian). I
remained in the service of our great nation for 20 years, with duty at the Bearing Sea, SE Asia,
Japan, Central and South America and around the US, experiences that were and still will continue
to be extremely challenging. Thank the good Lord for our service personnel and the contributions
that they and their families make on a daily basis. Upon retirement, I returned to Deltona FL,
worked in the college arena, security with the Walt Disney dynasty, then to Coca Cola Company
in Orlando. Personal and medical problems required me to retire, and now I feed the fish and
ducks in my yard, play around with my automotive hobbies and take on other projects.

“You haven’t changed.”
But I am not the same woman.
I am not the same man.
It is not the same world, but yet it is.
The years have taken their toll,
On our faces and in our hearts.
Grateful to reunite with those we have missed for years.
Regret that so many were absent.
Naming and remembering those who did not come
Those who can never come again.
Remembering each other’s families, who watched after us all.
Reaching out -- on the dance floor, at first glance, as we visit,
To cross the time and space that has separated us.
Sharing friendships with husbands and wives and children
Who never knew the young that we were -Sharing sadness -- sharing joys
Sympathy as we learn of the losses over the years.
Wishing we could remember some things better
Wishing the pain of remembering some things was less,
Remembering a bit differently after the span of time.
Despite all, for a moment
We yearn for that time when we were young together.
But only for a moment.
Thankful to those who made special efforts -Extended generous hospitality, worked hard to bring us together.
Promising to meet again.
Planning for the future.
Lord, grant us a safe journey through the next years . . .
Until we meet once more.
