The boys are loving the room and the cheerful feeling that comes with it. Our main focus is talking each day a part of Advent. We have a little interactive calendar that helps them think about the events that led up to Jesus’ birth. Religion Our disciple power word was Honor. When we honor others, we show respect and value them. We honor God because we are proud to be his children. We learned about the many names of God. He is one and only, the God, our Father. He is our Father who shows love for us. We talked about how our dads show love to us. God is the Creator, the creator of all things, everyone and everything. The biggest thing is he made everything out of Love! God the Almighty and he has the power to everything and everything God does is good. The students made gifts to put under our Christmas tree on our bulletin board. They drew one of the gifts God has blessed them with (from creation). Math We are continue to practice double digit addition but we will be moving onto double digit subtraction tomorrow! This is just as difficult as addition. One step at a time. Reading I am now reading The House Without a Christmas Tree. This is a great book to show what Christmas is all about and how to give back to others who have little. We continue to fill out the details in our story elements chart of characters, the setting, the problem, and the solution as we find out more information. Each student, read a specific Christmas story to me that I chose for them and then they wrote a book recommendation on an ornament. We discussed how to write a book recommendation. Those are also hung in the room. Writing We are continuing to work on our narrative paragraphs. The type of paragraph tells the details of a specific event. We are creating a narrative paragraph as a group and they are working on their own. We finished up our class narrative paragraph and wrote all the sentences for the paragraph. We are now onto revising, where we are adding detail. The boys also wrote acrostic poems with the word Christmas and wrote them on a stocking. They are hung in the room above our tree. Grammar They have had some fun Christmas themed activities to practice nouns, adjectives, and verbs. Science/ Social Studies We are now learning about the United States of America’s past. We have learned about Native Americans, the Spanish, the Pilgrims, and onto the 13 colonies becoming free after the American Revolution. They discussed the significance between the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution for our country. Our next topic will be slavery and the Civil War. We will start our Timeline projects on Friday. Thank you for filling out the information. Have a fun weekend!! Mrs. Ziegler
