October 17, 2012 issue: 003 The World Conference in Fukuoka will be held on October 9-12, 2013. Mr. “Tiger” Kinoshita’s company, CROCUS, will assist us with the airline arrangements and will be involved thru the end of the tour. Summary of Events Oct. 7th Depart Hawaii 9-12 World Conference 13 Visit to Miyako-machi 14-20 Tour then depart Visit to Miyako-machi: in August, Mayor Inoue and a few of his staff, accompanied 19 students to Hilo for their international summer program. Their home stay was hosted by our Kenjinkai. To solidify our relationship, Mayor Inoue asked for our reciprocal visit and stay. Guidelines Due to our home stay at Miyako-machi, participation will be set at 20 members. 1. Those who signed up as “Pretty Darn Sure” at the Shinnen Enkai on March 4th, will be given preference. 2. Because there are more than 20 who indicated, “Interested”, sign up will be based on 1st come basis for active members. 3. After the first 20 participants are received, we will have a waitlist. Take care and be safe (Itinerary, next page) FUKUOKA KENJINKAI 2013 JAPAN TOUR OCT. 7 ~ 20, 2013 (Tour Portion from Oct. 14 ~ 20, 2013) (12 nights, 14 days trip) Oct. 14(Mon.) From Miyako-machi to Yanagawa. Enjoy a canal boat ride(donko-bune) and feel the history of the canals & the beauty of the surrounding nature of the city. Famous specialty in Yanagawa is the “Unagi-no-Seiro-mushi”(grilled eel in a basket steamer) for lunch. Then visit the “Ohana” which was built as a villa for the Tachibana family, the lord of Yanagawa castle. You will be impressed with the beautiful view of the japanese-style “Shoto-En” garden. Hotel accommodation in Hita, with a old town atmosphere with old merchant’s houses & storehouses. Hotel in Hita Oct. 15(Tue.) From Hita, going towards Kumamoto and passing Aso go to Saganoseki. Ride a ferry from Saganoseki and go to Misaki port in Shikoku. From Misaki looking out at the beautiful long-stretch ocean view of Uwakai, then go to hotel in Uwajima. Hotel in Uwajima Oct. 16(Wed.) From Uwajima go to Nakamura, sightseeing of the famous Cape Ashizuri. Then looking at Shimanto River – one of the last clear rivers in Japan & the longest river in Shikoku and also view the Chinka-bashi, which is what they call a submergible bridge. It has no side rails on both sides so that the bridge won’t break when it floods. Then go to hotel in Kochi. Oct. 17(Thu.) In Kochi go to see the “Onaga-Dori”, a very long-tailed rooster which is only to be seen here and then visit a melon farm. Next in Iya valley go to see the Kazurabashi, which is one of three Japan’s rare bridges made of twining vines. Next taking the Shimanami-kaido (a island-hopping bridge system road) & looking at the beautiful view of the Seto-Naikai (Japan Inland Sea), go to Omi-shima and visit Oyamatsumi jinja where armors, swords, weapons designated as National Treasures are stored at the National Treasure Hall within the shrine complex. Then go to hotel in Hiroshima. Oct. 18(Fri.) From Hiroshima go to Matsue with the beautiful view of the Japan Sea. Go to see the Matsue castle and the well-preserved Buke-Yashiki Samurai Residence. Next visit Adachi Museum of Art, which has a combination of japanese art & garden designs. It was named as the no. 1 best garden in Japan within the Nihon TeiEn(Japanese Gardens) which can be viewed from the museum building. Then go to hotel in Matsue. Oct. 19(Sat.) After leaving the hotel go to Tottori and see their famous sand dunes on the coast which is Tottori’s main attraction. Then go to Osaka. You can enjoy shopping and find places to have dinner in a convenient location. Hotel in Osaka. Oct. 20(Sun.) Visit the Kaiyu-kan (Osaka Aquarium), the world’s largest aquarium tank which is home to the aquarium’s star attraction, a enormous whale shark and many other kinds of sealife animals. Then in the afternoon head for Kansai Intn’l. Airport for your departure flight to Honolulu.
