To help you assess the impact of being an examiner on your time and other resources, there is
a brief attachment associated with this application form.

- Please attach the contact details for three referees (at least one of whom must be a current or
past Primary examiner).
Time commitment
As a member of the Primary Examination Panel, the usual time commitment is 4-5 days per
year to attend the oral examination. This would normally happen on an annual basis. Further
to that you will be required to submit questions once a year to the various MCQ and SAQ
banks. You will also be required to mark a SAQ most years, which usually is a one to 2
weekend undertaking. In applying to be a Primary Examiner, you should be able to have
sufficient time to undertake these commitments.

College who are prepared to serve on the Panel of Examiners.

Further information:
1.
Appointments are for a period of three years and re-appointment can be made by the Council
subject to the recommendation of the Examination Committees and depending on the
requirements of the Examination at the time, the reports of ETAs and the contribution to the
examination process.
2.
Under normal circumstances, Examiners will be appointed for a maximum term of twelve years
subject to re-appointment every three years.
3.
In making appointments the Council may seek advice from its Examination and Education
Committees and also from the Regional Committees about the suitability of applicants.
4.
In making appointments to the Panel, the Council will take into account the need for examiners
with particular expertise or the need for a geographical spread of examiners.
5.
The Council reserves the right to make the appointment of suitable persons by invitation.
